Job Description

Job Title: Service TechnicianCompany Name: Tamarack HomesReports to: Site SuperintendentLocation: Ottawa, OntarioWork DescriptionThe Service Technician is responsible to perform quality repairs and timely service in occupied Tamarack homes. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality approach to all homeowners, employees, managers, trades and community members. All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Tamarack vision, mission, and must comply with all company policies and procedures.We are currently looking to fill the role of Service Technician at all of our sites:

  • Westwood/Edenwylde site in Kanata/Stittsville
  • Cardinal Creek
  • Meadows
  • Findlay Creek
Tamarack Developments:Tamarack Homes has a legacy of home-building in Ottawa that dates back to the 1940s when Harold Taggart began building homes for returning war veterans. Today, Tamarack Homes continues to be one of the most sought-after home builders in eastern Ontario.Major Responsibilities:
  • Meet and interact with homeowners on a day to day basis. Providing customer service that is aligned with the Tamarack service standards.
  • Perform repairs, including but not limited to drywall repairs, drywall installation, insulation, painting, framing, soffit and fascia, cabinet adjustments, ceramic tiles, lighting, plumbing, railings.
  • Fill cracks and other defects in plaster or plasterboard and sand patch, using patching plaster, trowel, and sanding tools.
  • Recognize problems and deficiencies and provide recommendations to supervisors on how to fix issues, execute and perform repairs.
  • Perform various repairs as identified by the Tamarack Home Inspector on the PDI, 30 Day and Year-End work orders.
  • Resolve deficiencies while keeping Tamarack requirements and responsibilities in mind.
  • Perform repairs to items listed by the Site Superintendent prior to the homeowners taking possession.
  • Update work orders as repairs are completed. Ensure homeowners sign off on all completed work.
  • Keep homeowners informed on the status of all repairs at every service call
  • Notify Site Superintendent and Service Department when items cannot be resolved, or when additional help is required from another staff member or subtrade.
  • Prepare written reports on service work performed for homeowners and submit reports regularly to the Service Department.
  • Schedule time with the Construction Manager, Service Manager or Site Superintendent to discuss recent problems and initiate resolutions and improvement plans.
  • Regularly visit sites to stay up to date on the current progress of the construction sites.
  • Liaise between homeowner and Construction/Service departments; provide follow-up and advice of outcome.
  • Respond to urgent/emergency service requests as directed by the Service Department or the Site Superintendent. (I.e. water penetration, plumbing leakage, no heat situations).
  • Troubleshoot, report or repair the issues on a case to case basis as needed.
  • Support other related duties as required by the site/service team.
  • All other duties as required.
Statement of Qualifications:Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the home building industry, preferably with a large residential developer.
  • Red Seal Certification is considered a strong asset.
  • Previous experience as a Carpenter or Service Technician would be ideal.
  • Physically fitness and manual dexterity are required. Ability to access attic spaces and roofs.
  • Ability to use power tools.
  • Demonstrated critical analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to independently coordinate several simultaneous tasks while maintaining a positive attitude and flexible work style.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle to drive around the site throughout the day to accomplish tasks as per the outlined schedule. Access to a vehicle may be required.
  • Ability to follow instructions, and a strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to complete tasks independently as per the prescribed schedule/timelines.
  • Ability to follow prioritize tasks based on various schedules as directed, including changes to schedules (trades, closing, etc).
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work well independently, and a willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills in dealing with colleagues, trades, and potentially homeowners.
Physical/Sensory Effort/Work Environment
  • Providing service to several people or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines.
  • Sitting or standing for long periods of time.
  • Heavy manual labor, requires ability to climb ladders, push, pull, lift, carry and manipulate objects of up to 80 lbs.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment will be required (e.g. hard-hat, safety boots, etc.).
  • Hazards associated with the construction industry.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • Ability to work at various locations across the division.
