Job Description

Larga Baffin has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Transportation ManagerLarga Baffin is classified as an Essential Service and is taking all mandatory and recommended precautionary measures as per Public Health authorities to ensure the health and safety of all staff and residents. A special thank you to all front-line workers for your commitment and dedication to serving those in need.Position OverviewThe Transportation Manager, under the direction of the General Manager, will primarily be responsible to ensure all appropriate workplace regulations and legislation regarding health and safety, accommodation standards, and company policies and procedures are adhered to at all times. This position will ensure that safe work practices are being followed. This role will also ensure the effectiveness of employees through strategic hiring, assignment of duties, discipline, and dismissal. The Transportation Manager must possess degree or an advanced degree in hospitality or a field related to the industry and three years of experience in a management role and five years of experience in the transportation field.Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all appropriate workplace regulations and legislation regarding health and safety, accommodation standards, and company policies and procedures are adhered to at all times
  • Ensure that safe work practices are being followed
  • Ensure the effectiveness of employees through strategic hiring, assignment of duties, discipline, and dismissal
  • Ensure that all employees comply with company policies, procedures, and ethical standards
  • Provide employee training, ensuring that all applicable compliance requirements are met
  • Provide leadership for employee relations through effective communications, coaching, training, and development
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide feedback, coaching, and formal evaluations
  • Ensure the highest standards of personal hygiene and dress is enforced amongst all employees
  • Oversee inspections of property and services to ensure compliance with licensing laws, health and safety, and other statutory requirements
  • Ensure all guests are greeted and welcomed in a friendly manner and their questions are answered as required
  • Attend to customer complaints in a professional manner when they are escalated to the management level
  • Develop strategic performance metrics and targets that are consistent with company goals
  • Coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and delegating work accordingly
  • Maintain shift schedules to ensure sufficient employee coverage
  • Oversee staff to ensure work is being performed according to established standards
  • Plan the departments workload and flow
  • Administer disciplinary action in accordance with established procedures
  • Analyse departmental operations and identify areas requiring improvement
  • Oversee driving operations and vehicle fleet management
  • Responds to emergency maintenance requests, troubleshoots issues to determine cause and solutions
  • Oversees the Supervisor, Driving and Dispatch, ensures he/she is managing ongoing maintenance requirements of Larga Baffins vehicle fleet according to quality and safety standards
  • Provides support and guidance for dispatch and vehicle fleet management as necessary
  • Conducts performance reviews for driving staff in conjunction with the Driving and Dispatch Supervisor
  • Develops and maintains, with support from staff and Supervisors, departing and/or procedures manuals
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Degree or an advanced degree in hospitality or a field related to the industry
  • Three years of experience in a management role and five years of experience in the transportation field
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
  • Experience with coaching and employee development
  • Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on mentoring and motivation of employees
  • Demonstrated time management skills
  • Ability to identify measures of performance and actions needed to improve or correct performance
  • Ability to delegate, set expectations, and monitor progress of all direct reports
  • Ability to remain calm and poised in urgent situations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (word, excel, outlook etc.)
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience developing, monitoring and tracking budgets
Preferred Qualifications
  • Solid understanding of contract administration including the tendering process
  • Solid working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Beneficiary Status with the ability to speak Inuktitut preferred
