Job Description

General Posting InformationPOSITION: Unit Registration ClerkDEPARTMENT: Childbirth ProgramCONDITIONS: Part-time (0.40 FTE)HOURS: Approximately 30.0 Bi-weekly HoursSHIFTS:Days / Evenings / Weekends / Nights7.5 hours & 11.25 hours per shift(subject to change)WAGE RANGE:Scale Minimum MaximumNONU $23.24/hr $27.88/hrRESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To provide clerical, reception, and communication service and support to the patient care areas and staff to optimize flow of patients and information including:
    • Creating a first impression of confidentiality and professionalism for the hospital
    • Providing a wide range of clerical support functions across the various units within the program
    • Effectively and efficiently pre-admitting, receiving, documenting/registering, communicating, scheduling, directing/assigning, and processing patients, visitors, and hospital staff in person and by phone.
  • Transcribing physician orders as per QCH policy
  • Completing Order Entry (OE) - Processing paper and electronic requisitions, requesting consults, tests, procedures and follow-up appointments at QCH
  • Maintaining statistical data as directed and initiating and maintaining the daily census, predicted discharges, working with bed board and nursing to facilitate patient flow
  • Register all admissions and perform Health Card validation and have patient/relative complete necessary MoH and financial paperwork for preferred accommodation or if insurance invalid or patient is non-insured ie. out of country; review with patient/relative that all data complete and accurate
  • Preparing and closing patients’ charts according to administrative policy and unit requirements
  • Retrieve all patient charts prior to the arrival of the patient, and file all reports relating to the patient care pre and post delivery.
    • Assign inpatient beds according to availability and patients request (preferred accommodation), for elective, emergency, and direct admissions
    • Liaise with Manager of Patient Flow and inpatient units to co-ordinate daily patient placement/transfers for the hospital to facilitate effective planning/bed assignment of available beds
  • Demonstrate QCH values: accountability, innovation and respect
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Grade 12 education
  • Medical Terminology
  • 1 year experience in front line customer service in a health care setting
  • Proficient in information systems and technology
  • Effective coping skills and the ability to perform multiple demands while working in a fast-paced dynamic work environment
  • Work under minimal supervision, work well within a team and be customer focused
PREFERRED:
  • Medical Administration or Unit/Ward Clerk certificate from an accredited community college
  • 3 years experience in front line customer service in a health care setting
