The Opportunity:The Vice President, Building Sciences will lead a team across Canada leading both the strategy and execution of people, delivery and operations across Building Sciences. The Vice President Building Sciences will develop and execute the vision, strategy, and objective of our Building Sciences business while integrating services to our clients needs.This opportunity invites a leader who is experienced coordinating client and business development activities across Canada linking various leaders, employees and subsectors together. In WSP Canada, the Building Sciences team is focusing on an organic growth strategy and increasing market share in design areas of Existing Building Restoration/Renewal, Building’s enclosure engineering including Facades and Roofing, Property Condition Assessments, Commissioning, etc.We are seeking a leader who is keen to develop, communicate, and implement best practices in order for team members to continue to grow Technical Expertise, while assessing risks & develop options with budgets & recommendations. The Vice-President will ensure that the business is properly managed at all levels and is ultimately responsible for the financial performance of budgets.   • Use extensive knowledge and expertise to drive new business, make strategic decisions, and foster innovation across the business.
  • Approve policies, operational budgets and spending in the subsector.
  • Development and execution of strategic plans.
  • Work with executive leadership to make final decisions on operational/business strategies, objectives, and goals.
  • Develop a high performing Building Science business through strategic recruitment and developing expertise within the team;
  • Lead, guide, and mentor team members.
  • Negotiate contracts with clients, suppliers, and other service providers.
  • Prepare and execute business development plans, develop market strategies, win new work.
  • Advise senior leadership on Building Science matters.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead and educate the Buildings community and wider WSP business on the value add services of Building Science;
  • Determine project needs and monitor inter-office, inter-provincial and inter-regional (worldwide) coordination;
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to sustain a mature and disciplined culture with consistent enterprise delivery of processes that contribute to increased client satisfaction and financial results;
  • Achieve interdisciplinary coordination with the various Buildings Service Lines (inclusive of Quebec Operations, Structural, Project Management, Architectural, Telecom & Technology, Mechanical and Electrical);
  • Act as a key interface for change management, project management, risk management, and issue resolution;
  • Manage improvement processes for services delivery and provide both tactical and strategic leadership (challenges the status quo and collaboratively sets new standards)
  • Provide continuous constructive feedback on performance results & project deliverables against business line goals;
  • Reviews and approves project evaluations and post-implementation reviews. Implements associated continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Responsible for optimizing profitability and company growth in terms of sales and market share (achieve sales, revenue, DSO, Utilization and operating margin targets.)

  • Market & industry intelligence within Building Science including key clients, trends, and service standards
  • Optimizing the financial, commercial, and project delivery performance of an existing business;
  • Project management software applications;
  • Project accounting and resource allocation techniques;
  • Project risk management and mitigation techniques;
  • Quality management systems;
  • Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERP) including integrated financial/accounting, procurement, payroll and human resources systems;
  • Change Management of people and processes
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • +15 years Industry related experience within the built environment
  • University degree or equivalent
  • Bi-lingual is considered an asset
  • Experience influencing senior leaders and comfortable working in matrix management models
  • Confidence to influence a high caliber team to drive a business to higher performance levels
  • Advanced people and leadership skills to effectively manage relationships which may be indirect in order to achieve consensus, direction and achievement of results
  • A track record of creating an environment where people want to do their best through working collaboratively, empowering teams to identify and solve problems, creating a clear sense of identity with the company, and holding teams accountable for meeting their collective goals
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced and multi-task work environment
  • Strong ability to create and sustain strong client relationships by proactively identifying opportunities in the market whereby WSP can provide Building Science services
  • Critical thinker using facts and data in identifying problems, drawing valid conclusions and generating a range of alternative solutions and courses of action;
