Job Description

CNI builds circuit boards for the telecom sector. This role and compensation for this role assumes that we train you from the ground up, with compensation increases as you improve skillsets. Opportunities to grow with training into a role running circuit board building machines like solder waves, selective solder, and manufacturing lines. Opportunities for cross-training with the surface mount technology (SMT) group.Solder Wave Technicians set up, monitor, clean, maintain, adjust, and troubleshoot solder wave technology that solders through hole components to electronic circuits. This technology involves molten solder pot(s), product-specific adjustments, and safety considerations related to high temperature material, fume extraction, and dross clean-up.Reports to: primary Plant Manager; also Director, Manufacturing OperationsWe need:

  • Mechanical aptitude: understanding machine mechanics or willing to learn. Cleaning and maintenance involves significant mechanical aptitude for the fluxing, conveying, and soldering modules.
  • Attention to detail: proper machine operation depends on thorough cleaning and taking pride in the machines state as well as the cleanliness of the wave solder manufacturing area.
  • Problem-Solving: learning to test and understand a problem, making logical conclusions and improvements.
  • Communication and resource allocation: when running wave, you will have access to assembly resources for board loading, unloading, and inspection. Allocate resources where you need, and ensure quality of produced product.
  • Flexibility: at present, the scope of this role doesnt consume a full work day. But, you will work full-time, cross-training with the SMT and assembly groups, and a portion of your day will be spent helping other groups, although the wave solder cleaning and maintenance will take priority.
  • Focus under production pressures.
  • Knowing what you don’t know.

Initial Responsibilities:
  • For a period of approximately 2 months, receive incremental internal training to achieve moderate competency.
  • Then, receive external training to become the subject matter expert at Comtest. You will be the leading resource for wave soldering.
  • Learn CNI build philosophy from other team-members.
  • Help as needed by SMT and assembly groups.
Opportunities for Advancement:
  • Operate the wide range of machines in the SMT group, including paste printing, pick and place, reflow, odd-form, and board handling equipment; including setup, tear down and running, per established procedures.
  • Document and perform process optimizations.
  • Operate and balance multiple production lines.
  • Operate, maintain, and program selective solder machines.
  • Cross-train on other activities, as available.
  • CNI is an IPC-Class 2 facility. We work to IPC-610 workmanship standards. We require employees to follow various ESD, safety, and ISO guidelines.
Minimum Educational Qualifications:
  • Minimum high school education or GED
Minimum Previous Experience:
  • Previous experience in circuit boards desired, but we will consider training you from the ground up. Being a technician on these machines is an interesting, technical career.
Other Skills:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. You will quickly become more knowledgeable about this particular equipment than our internal resources.
  • Must have the ability to work efficiently and work well in a team environment.
  • Must be punctual and have good attendance.
