Job Description

Karwood Retirement HomePart-Time Assistant Resident Care ManagerWe have an immediate opportunity for an Assistant Resident Care Manager. The Home is in Paradise, NL and provides service to 72 residents requiring Level 1 and Level 2 care.Primary Responsibilities: Reporting to the Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for directing, assisting and implementing the coordination of residents’ care based upon established operational standards, to assist with the quality-of-life requirements for each resident. The Assistant responsibilities include:

  • Supervising care plans for PCH residents, ensuring compliance with all Operational Standards
  • Assisting the RCM of the safekeeping of drugs, narcotics and supervising the medication administration programs of residents
  • Complete daily audits of the Medication Room, Fridge Temperatures and Med Administration documentation, Incident Report/Progress Notes auditing
  • Cover PCA shifts when needed which includes assisting the personal care of residents and the administration of medication
  • Pharmacy Communication
  • Ensures that infection control program is implemented and coordinates healthcare activities with family practitioners and other health care service providers as per the Operational Standards.
  • Participate actively in all Health and Safety, Fire and Quality Assurance programs.
  • Completes staff and client incident/accident reports and advises Manager of all incidents
  • Schedule is part time Monday – Friday, with some evenings and weekends required depending on staffing and programming.
  • On-call with PCH cell phone; rotating weekends.
  • Other assigned and/or related duties that ensure resident’s needs are met.
  • Assumes duties as required in the absence of the RCM or Manager.
Performance Requirements
  • Continuously follow the standards outlined in the Provincial Personal Care Home Operational Manual and ensure that these standard and values are instilled in the day-to-day performance of the staff
  • Demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with the Karwood team, with residents and RHA team as well as external service providers.
  • Demonstrate sound leadership, organizational skills & foster team work
  • Demonstrate solid personal care skills
  • Able to work under minimal supervision and demonstrates the ability to effectively supervise others
Technical Skills Required
  • Knowledge of NL Health and Safety regulations.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Approximately 2 years of relevant management experience
  • Confident in teaching and delegating activities of daily living (ADL’s) task/skills to PCA team
Educational Requirements
  • Registered LPN
Physical Job Requirements
  • Work in an environment where there are many distractions and attention are needed on numerous issues at a time.
  • Walking, stretching and standing on a variety of surfaces for at least 4 hours per day.
  • Lift alone, up to 20 pounds
  • Pushing, pulling wheeled equipment up to 160 pounds
  • Bending, stooping on a regular basis
  • Able to work in confined spaces
