Job Description

Parkland County has an opportunity for a temporary, full-time Economic Growth Specialist position in the Growthamp; Strategy Department until approximately December 2025.Reporting to the Manager, Economic Growth, this position will deliver technical support, programs and services that advance business investment and growth with a primary focus on new and local businesses. The successful candidate will be solutions focused on the delivery of regulatory information and pathfinding services to business owners as they navigate through the County’s permit processes, as well as identification and referrals to other business support services. Guided by Parkland County Council’s Economic Diversification strategic pillar, the Economic Growth Specialist will lead public education programs and service delivery improvements, using an equity lens, to support a vibrant and prosperous business community and further the County’s reputation as business friendly.The ideal candidate for this position will have the following:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma in Business Administration, Urban and/or Regional Planning, Economic Development, Arts, or a related field. A Degree in a related field would be considered an asset.
  • Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), Alberta Professional Planning Institute (APPI), or Alberta Development would be considered an asset.
  • Public engagement/participation certificate would be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with planning and development permit processes, the Municipal Government Act, Zoning Bylaws and Alberta Safety Code and other relevant statutory plans, policies, procedures, and bylaws would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related experience in economic growth and/or business attractionamp; retention.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication, active listening and negotiation skills.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, customer service skills and the ability to remain diplomatic and tactful when dealing with the public.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and SharePoint, and ability to quickly learn and adapt to new programs.
  • Possession of a valid Alberta driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required.
The total rewards package for this position includes:A starting annual salary of $82,300 to $92,600 based on a 35-hour work week and the option to join the Earned Day Off Program.In addition, extended health and dental benefits, access to our confidential Employee and Family Assistance Program, paid sick time, three (3) weeks vacation a year with your birthday off, flexible work arrangements allowing hybrid-remote work options and personal days are offered.
