Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Provide management of all Operations processes related to the traditional ceded reinsurance book of business.KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Management of ceded reinsurance business including preparation of bordereaux, ensuring integrity and accuracy of data, payment of premiums, maintaining data for claim recoveries
  • Analysis and entry of ceded reinsurance contracts in the underwriting system
  • Validation of pertinent financial information for the Operational Verification process
  • Management of the retro cash allocation process and highlighting problematic items
  • Monitoring of receivable/recoverable balances and the follow-up on overdue balances
  • Completion of duties related to ceded reinsurance for the monthly and quarterly close process
  • Be able to liaise with the ceded reinsurance underwriting team, actuarial and finance in the transformation of all business aspects of ceded reinsurance into tangible operational and financial results
  • Manage junior team members in the area of ceded reinsurance
  • Assist the VP, Finance & Operations in producing any materials for ceded reinsurance committees and other meetings as applicable
  • Provide periodic and detailed reporting to management and parent company as requested
  • Maintain audit working papers and controls for SOX purposes, as well as respond to external and internal audit requests as applicable
  • Other duties and ad-hoc projects as required
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Current CA, CPA, ACA or other equivalent designation strongly preferred
  • Progress toward or a willingness to undertake the Associate in Reinsurance {ARe) or a related designation would be preferred
  • A minimum of 5+ years’ similar experience at an international reinsurance company
  • Proven experience managing a team of people required
  • Knowledge of structure of underwriting files and previous experience to reinsurance contracts, treaties and reinsurance markets required
  • Proven problem solving ability, demonstrated efficient use of other resources and ability to self-manage and not require constant supervision or feedback to complete tasks
  • Proven organizational and timekeeping skills and a strong sense of attention to detail are essential
  • Proven ability to instruct and teach other staff members
  • Experience with SICS would be an asset
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills i.e. a thorough command of the English language including excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • The ability to deal effectively and courteously with clients and colleagues, and to exercise discretion and confidentiality in all matters
  • Must be able to work outside of normal office hours including evenings, weekends and public holidays if necessary
