Position InformationPosition Number S00736Position Title ASE LiaisonDivision/Portfolio Arts and Foundational ProgramsDepartment/Program Adult Special EducationLocation PentictonYour OpportunityUnder the limited supervision of the Adult Special Education (ASE) Instructor, and embedded within the ASE courses outcomes, the Liaison is responsible for implementing, and supervising the exploration of employment opportunities in the BEST (Building Employment Skills and Training) program and for providing students with hands-on opportunity to practice skills learned in the classroom. The Liaison will also promote ASE in the community with high schools, employers, and community agencies. They will work with student to assist them in navigating the college activities and services, as well as promoting and assisting students interested in the SAME program.Functions and DutiesBEST responsibilities:o Planning, implementing, and supervising the exploration of employment opportunities. Organizing and booking tours of workplaces, mock interviews, job shadows and job placements throughout the year, tailored to the individual students’ interests.o Describe to work experience supervisors reasonable accommodations and workplace supportso Plan for each student to be submitted to the chair and the BEST instructoro Visits placement sites regularly to ensure that quality training is being provided.o Provides hands-on training to the student and supports work experience hosts to plan for and provide better job training experiences for students.ASE promotion responsibilities:o Establish and maintain community connections with secondary schools and agencies, alongside the ASE instructor, for the purpose of promoting all ASE programs.o Plan and organize visitations of groups of high school students to our classes and/or our students to high schoolso Update campus specific course brochures and program guide for the upcoming yearo Represent ASE at campus open house events-set up and man info table with promotional materialso Establish and maintain community connections with employers and promote BEST program on a regular basiso Annual update of community contact information; school district contacts and support agency contacts. Connect with these, distribute promotional material, invite them to open houses, arrange for potential students to sit-in on a classGeneral ASE student responsibilities:o Research campus events and facilitate participation of ASE studentso Attend orientation day and facilitate student participationo As needed, support and facilitate student access to accessibility services, aboriginal services, course advising, financial aid (AUG) campus connections (clubs, student council, campus events etc.)o As needed, facilitate student’s success by supporting them in bridging barriers (housing, food, transportation by connecting to community supports).o Assist students with registration, obtaining student cards, parking passes, etc.o Assist students with graduation applications during their last semester of classesAs needed, assist students with assignments and organizationSAMEo Assist student interested in the SAME program by consulting with other departments at the college and following the SAME application process.And any other relative and assigned dutiesReport of duties preformed to be submitted to the chair and the BEST instructor once a month.Education and Experience
