From the beginning, Tin Whistle has been dedicated to producing great beer that represents the Okanagan region. Now under new ownership, the brand, product mix, packaging, online platforms, and taproom have been revitalized, and we are growing. Tin Whistle is commitment to producing great beer with less environmental impact, and is the first carbon neutral brewery in B.C.Due to growth exceeding our forecast, we are seeking a full-time, permanent brewer of exceptional caliber.We are now laying the foundation for massive growth of output. The past year has seen significant capital expenditure in the brew-house,- Two new 40hL tanks- Heat exchanger- 1bbl state-of-the-art pilot system- Full new glycol chilling systemThis is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has already learned the industry, has already succeeded in a demanding environment, and wants to use her/his creativity and passion to build a systematic approach to increasing both capacity and innovation with limited resources.About youWe’re seeking someone who wants to produce prodigious quantities and experiment relentlessly with new and innovative ideas.We are looking for someone who can demonstrate knowledge through achievement, and we are seeking formal beer/ beer-master education. We are fine with bad news, but cannot act upon it if you don’t tell us.The brewer will enjoy accountability for all aspects of the beer production process and day-to-day operations of the brewery. Proficient brewing skills, positive leadership style, and the desire become an integral part of the brewery’s long-term success are all required.This full-time position offers a competitive compensation package and a strong team.Nature of WorkAs the Brewer you are responsible for but not limited to quality control, recipe and concept development, keeping detailed brewing records, canning, kegging, raw materials ordering, yeast management, health and safety, brewing equipment maintenance, inventory management, as well as scheduling.You maintain a professional and safe environment, cultivate an exceptional team and individual performance often working unsupervised, maintain high quality standards for each batch brewed and have peak standards for overall cleanliness. You bring a positive attitude to the brewery and take pride in your work.Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees and executes the production process of all beer from recipe development to final packaging
  • Manages production scheduling, inventory, and materials ordering
  • Develops, formulates, tests, and produces new recipes on a state of the art pilot system
  • Leads quality control for all products including sensory evaluation and data interpretation and reporting
  • Maintains detailed records and quality control reporting
  • Develops and refines Standard Operating Procedures with an eye to continual improvement
  • Controls costs by minimizing waste and designing beers within cost guidelines
  • Trains, mentors, and coaches production team members to create a culture of excellence, teamwork, inclusiveness, and positivity
  • Contributes and models safety and environmental awareness by following all processes and procedures, looking for opportunities to improve, and effectively communicating relevant information to production staff
  • Represents the brewery at industry events, workshops, tastings, etc.
  • Works a flexible schedule, as required, to meet deadlines (will include some evenings and weekends)
Physical Requirements
  • Excellent physical endurance and being able to work full shifts on your feet and perform physical acts such as bending over, twisting, kneeling and climbing stairs
  • Able to lift safely and regularly upwards of 75kg
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment around varying degrees of temperature, humidity, moisture, heat and cleaning materials
Competencies and Abilities
  • Strong technical brewer, with focus on procedure, measurement, and repeatability
  • Focused on producing excellent beer across a wide variety of styles in support of an incredible customer experience
  • Ability to develop new and creative recipes with a wide variety of ingredients
  • Incredible organizational and time management skills with the ability to maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
  • Can-do attitude
  • Ability to use available resources to troubleshoot and problem solve challenges that arise
  • Forklift training/certification an asset
  • Mechanical skills an asset (i.e. construction, boiler operational knowledge, pump operations, machinery maintenance)
Experience and Education
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a professional brewing environment in a role directly related to brewing and production
  • Professional brewing education or relevant equivalent experience
