Job Description

Concrete FinisherEmployment Type: SeasonalLocation: Penticton, BC, CAApply URL: https://penticton.prevueaps.ca/jobs/15233.htmlThe City of Pentictons Public Works Department is in search of a highly skilled and energetic individual for the seasonal assignment of Concrete Finisher. The Public Works department keeps our community safe by providing clean, safe drinking water, a reliable sanitary sewer system, and storm-water drainage to help prevent flooding. This department manages the roads in our community, as well as the parks and cemetery, and collects your garbage and recycling. To help support these services, as well as those delivered by other departments, the Public Works department also manages the Citys fleet of vehicles.Reporting to the Public Works Roads and Drainage Supervisor, the Concrete Finisher will perform tasks such as working with the Concrete Crew to complete concrete related projects, assess and maintain current concrete infrastructure and participate in the Snow and Ice Control Program as required.Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform material removal, base material prep, form, pour and finish concrete projects as directed.
  • Perform Sidewalk Inspection Program in written and digital format.
  • Perform paving stone sidewalk installation and repair.
  • Perform snow and ice control operations as required or directed.
  • Perform general Public Works related duties and tasks.
Key Qualifications:
  • Completion of Senior Secondary School or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver License.
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience placing and finishing concrete in a municipal or construction environment.
  • Thorough and technical knowledge of municipal infrastructure, maintenance, construction principles, practices, standards, methods, tools, equipment and applicable safety regulations related to the installation and repair of concrete infrastructure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to deal with people in a positive and professional manner at all times.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively plan daily duties, direct and supervise others.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand plans, blueprints and grade stakes.
  • Understanding of GIS and field collection instruments to complete assigned maintenance programs.
  • Ability to perform math calculations as relevant to site layout and material quantities related to concrete products.
  • Ability to work cooperatively or independently, problem solve and exercise sound judgement.
  • Ability to keep accurate written and digital documentation of daily duties performed.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
