Job Description

Are you well organized, and a self-starter Do you have experience working with people with disabilities to reach their professional and personal potential We are looking for an Employment and Peer Services Assistant to provide this highly individualized service.The Employment and Peer Services Assistant will utilize a client-centered, strength-based approach, and will assist individuals to achieve one or more of the following outcomes: competitive employment, sustainable self-employment, unpaid work placements, and/or long term community attachment positions.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES- Conduct disability-related needs assessments, interpreting specialized assessments or clinical assessments,- Assess client needs in specialized areas such as physical limitations, developmental disabilities, mobility skills, and cognitive, social and emotional barriers,- Work with participants, including those who are experiencing homelessness or at-risk of homelessness, to assist them in attaining meaningful employment or peer work while building partnerships with employers and community agencies,- Meet with employers to gather information on workplace needs and negotiate unique/carved employment opportunities for individuals with barriers to employment,- Determine on-the-job supports that will be needed for employment/peer placements and successful employment,- Provide individuals with other services such as one-to-one life skills and essential skills workshops, advocacy and other supports as needed,- Assist our South Okanagan team with other programming coverage, administrative and technical needs, working as a team player,- Provide Job Coaching (as needed) during work/peer placements to promote employment success and retention, and- Reporting, and daily tracking of activities on our in-house database.POSITION REQUIREMENTS- Minimum two years’ experience working with individuals with barriers to success- Related diploma or degree (Social Work, Business/Marketing, etc) or a combination of certificates and experience with assisting individuals with barriers to success find meaningful work/peer placement opportunities- Proficient with technology in a Window environment including MS office. ICM experience an asset.- Proven ability to work effectively and achieve results with persons with cognitive, emotional, and behavioral barriers-Experience with conducting and reporting observations and assessment tools to develop Employment Profile.- Knowledge of local labour market and proficient in job search strategies and skills- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a professional attitude- Understanding of work-site supports and accommodations that may benefit individuals with disabilities- Valid Class 5 BC drivers’ license and vehicle preferred- A CRC will be required from the successful candidatePiers values diversity and is committed to providing an inclusive work environment.
