Job Description

SOWINS works with practicum students from many disciplines and institutions in our local communities and abroad. We frequently work with students from the following disciplines:

  • Social Work, Social Services and related programs
  • Counselling
  • Public Policy and Administration
  • Gender Studies and Women’s Studies
Supporting StudentsWe have a robust practicum program to ensure you receive impactful training, guidance and equipment you need to succeed. We strive to provide an environment of consistent reliability for women and children accessing our services. Because of this, our practicums require a minimum of 200 hours over at least 8 weeks. We find this to be a minimum for the time it takes to get to know and do meaningful work in the community.Students will have a chance to practice their skills in a variety of settings:One-on-one counselling sessions
  • Group counselling sessions
  • Receiving drop-ins
  • Community outreach projects
Practicum OpportunitiesAll SOWINS practicums are rooted in feminist and anti-oppressive values, and students will become familiarized with the ways in which harm reduction and trauma-informed principles are applied to situations in the real world. Here is a list of our current opportunities:
  • Stopping the Violence Counsellor
  • Support Work at our Transition House
