All Terrain Vegetation Services Inc (ATVS) is looking for two Invasive Species Technicians to join a team committed to protecting our most important natural areas and the plants and animals they sustain.Location: Southwestern Alberta (Pincher Creek or Crowsnest Pass)Position details: Full Time Contract from April 24th – August 31st (37.5 hrs/week) Opportunities for Overtime.Compensation: $20-22 hr – based on experience and credentialsAll Terrain Vegetation Services Inc (ATVS) is Southern Alberta’s leading industrial vegetation control organization, working to protect our most important natural areas and the species they sustain. Since 2015 ATVS and its teams have protected more than 10,000 acres of ecologically significant land. ATVS takes a collaborative, science-based approach to achieve conservation success. With an office in PincherCreek, ATVS delivers results you can see.Purpose and General DescriptionThe Invasive Species Technicians will support an invasive species control program mainly focused in Southern Alberta. The project will be focused on identifying and controlling populations of invasive species. The Invasive Species Technicians will conduct invasive species management on industrial ROW, lease sites and production plants.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify and document invasive species on clients properties;
  • Monitor effectiveness of weed control measures that have been implemented;
  • Collect and manage invasive species data and ensure ATVS database is kept up to date;
  • Spray invasive weeds with UTV sprayer; Handheld equipment, mix and prepare herbicides; maintain weed-spraying equipment;
  • Use a brush cutter to mow invasive weeds.
  • Act as ATVS ambassadors in the field including liaising with members of the public to inform them about ATVS, its mandate and property management activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • Have a working knowledge of invasive species in Alberta (specifically plant species) and have strong identification skills at various growth stages;
  • Demonstrate an interest and/or experience in performing on the ground stewardship actions related to invasive species control including hand and chemical removal;
  • Display competency with mapping systems (GIS and Avenza Maps) and be able to utilize hand held mapping tools in the field to document invasive species;
  • Be confident in outdoor skills including wildlife safety, check in procedures, navigation and comfortable working alone in remote areas and demonstrate good judgement in different situations (i.e. if you encounter a hazard);
  • Be enthusiastic, positive, detail oriented, and self-motivated even when not working under direct supervision;
  • Have valid Standard First Aid certification and Valid H2S
  • UTV riders’ safety certificate or associated experience is an asset.
  • Have a valid non-probationary (class 5) driver’s license and a clean drivers abstract; and
  • A pesticide applicator’s license and associated experience is an asset
  • This can be a physically demanding job, requiring long days operating a UTV sprayer, or using a brush cutter - sometimes in inclement weather and through various mountainous terrains.
