We are currently looking to fill the position of Maintenance Superintendent for the Point Tupper Generation and Port Hawkesbury Biomass Generation Stations.Accountabilities: The successful candidate will be accountable for the successful deployment and development of skills in work groups engaged in the maintenance of a thermal power plant. You will have a key accountability to mentor the employees within the maintenance department in order to develop skills, flexibility, effectiveness, efficiency, continuous improvement processes and advance the maintenance philosophy toward Best Practices and an asset management model.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the continuous development of maintenance best practices in predictive, preventive, reactive and maintenance planning programs for instrument, electrical, mechanical equipment and major or annual overhaul programs.
  • With the assistance of the Plant Manager and the maintenance group, develop appropriate performance goals, metrics and Balanced Scorecards and assist in the closing of performance gaps.
  • Provide technical support and direction to employees in area of expertise, diagnosing faults/troubleshooting and equipment problems.
  • Assist with capital planning and execution of capital projects and must be knowledgeable of budgeting processes.
  • Utilize problem solving techniques including Root Cause Failure Analysis and other Reliability Maintenance techniques.
  • Understand and be committed to the contents of the Point Tupper Environmental Management System and the Port Hawkesbury Biomass Environmental Management System.
  • Accountable for the continual improvement of business unit environmental performance, for the meeting of environmental objectives and targets and for the integration of environmental considerations in all business decisions.
  • Maintain due diligence to ensure that corporate, divisional, and plant specific safety, environment and business practices and standards are followed.
  • Effective communications and feedback with staff and other related departments, providing advice and information consistent with overall business unit and corporate objective.
  • Responsible to apply leadership in relation to our overall corporate commitment to attain safety excellence.
You must be knowledgeable of the Collective Agreement and will be expected to ensure that it is fairly and consistently administered on day to day basis.You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.It is the responsibility of the Maintenance Superintendent to ensure that NSPI follows all NERC/NPCC reliability standards related to Power Production.This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.In accordance with Emera’s occupational health and safety program and the Emera Vaccine Program, subject to any approved accommodation, all employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. For clarity, “fully vaccinated” means having the number of doses or combination of doses of a vaccine approved by Health Canada or local public health agencies in the jurisdiction in which they will be employed.Skills, Capabilities and Experience: Applicants must have a minimum of five years of experience in a supervisory or leadership type role. Applicants must have a thorough understanding of industrial plant maintenance processes / practices. Preference will be given to those with a professional engineering designation or registered trade / technology. Experience in thermal generating station maintenance is an asset. Demonstrated exemplary leadership capabilities, including excellent communication, relationship building skills and motivational and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to manage work teams effectively are required. The successful applicant has demonstrated their effectiveness as a team member and easily crosses organizational boundaries to work effectively as part of an integrated Team.
