We are currently looking to fill the position of Chemical & Environmental Supervisor.Accountabilities: The Chemical & Environmental Supervisor will provide leadership and technical assistance to support the environmental and operating objectives of the Point Tupper Generating Station & the Port Hawkesbury Biomass Plant.You will work cooperatively with the plant management team and the corporate environmental groups on the development and implementation of environmental management programs aimed at continuously improving environmental performance. You will provide supervisory leadership to the chemical and environmental team by ensuring that work is conduct in a safe and effective manner. You will also provide coaching and development to the team and audit work to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency.Environmental compliance is a priority for this position, including the operation of the wastewater treatment facility and the operation and control of chemical process equipment. The incumbent must also assume the role of Environmental Management System (EMS) Coordinator for the plant and advise plant management on compliance with the EMS system and quality assurance techniques.You will be responsible for producing reports, both internally and for Nova Scotia Environment, on a monthly and a quarterly basis. Investigations of permit non-conformances and/or variations of accepted standards are also completed by this position. Other responsibilities include the preparation and maintenance of budgets, maintenance of chemicals and equipment, minimizing labour and material costs, and contributing to a work environment based on mutual respect and trust.You must be committed to the site safety program and pro-actively manage safety performance and culture. You must demonstrate your ongoing commitment to and participate in the capabilities and leadership development processes.You must be able to work effectively as a team member and demonstrate participation in and support for the Competency Based Training program.You will be responsible for personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. As well, you will be responsible for solid environmental performance of the plant and support all ISO 14001 processes and initiatives.This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.Skills, Capabilities and Experience: You must have either a Chemical Technologist diploma or Environmental Technologist Diploma, a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Chemistry or Environmental Science, or a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, or other relevant discipline from a recognized post secondary institution. Applicants with a 1st class power engineering license are also welcomed.Previous supervisory experience and five years relevant working experience is required. A working fluency is also required with basic science, laboratory techniques, and environmental legislation at the provincial and federal levels. It would be an asset to have experience in risk assessment and management, environmental site assessment, field and project management, and the use of statistical techniques.You have excellent interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as exceptional organizational skills.
