Community:Pond InletReference number:05-507260Type of employment:IndeterminateUnion Status:This position is included in the Nunavut Employees UnionSalary:$97,372 per year for 37.5 hour/weekNorthern Allowance:$28,577 per yearSubsidized staff housing availableClosing Date:Friday, October 14, 2022 - 11:59pmThis employment opportunity is open to all applicants.Reporting to the Community Justice Manager, the incumbent will oversee the delivery of the Community Justice Division’s community-based justice programming in one of four Nunavut regions. Specific focus of Community Justice program delivery including crime prevision, restorative practices, offender reintegration, after-care programs and Contribution Agreement accountability. The incumbent will work collaboratively with other Community Justice Specialists, the Community Justice Manager and the Director in program planning for the enhancement and growth of community-based justice initiatives in Nunavut.The position will provide direct supervision to the Government of Nunavut employed Community Justice Outreach Workers in the region. The incumbent will also organize and deliver training that involves community members and municipalities to develop appropriate community justice initiatives. Among other duties listed on the job description, reviewing and verifying financial records and reporting as outlined in the Contribution Agreement will also be required.To be successful in this position, the incumbent must have knowledge of GN Financial and Human Resources policies, procedures and practices; restorative justice models and the criminal justice system. Knowledge of various Acts such as the Child and Family Services Act and the Family Abuse Intervention Act is also required. The ability to organize and deliver training to those involved in community justice initiatives, community-based personnel and Department of Justice staff will be required. Good supervisory, organizational and interpersonal skills are required as well as the ability to work within a team environment. As the incumbent will work directly with other CJOW’s/SAO’s/Community groups, the incumbent must have good verbal and written communication skills. Office Management experience will be considered an asset.The knowledge, skills and abilities required for this job is usually obtained through a degree or diploma in Social Science or Justice Field with a minimum of three (3) years related experience. Supervisory experience or managing staff is considered an asset. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position.
