In doing so, he/she is accountable for the design and coordination of the development, implementation and delivery of recruitment and orientation programs for new educators; management of the mentorship program for current educators; and the stewardship of Nunavut’s (educator) Professional Development Framework(s). He/she supports a system of formative assessment that is focused on the continuous improvement of all Nunavut educators with the goal of excellence in teaching and leadership standards. Ultimately, this ensures that students receive high quality education which positions them to better access local job opportunities and function as citizens of the world.The Manager, Educator Development plays a key role in ensuring that educators are best equipped to deliver the curriculum established by the Minister of Education. It is through the Manager, Educator Development that the Department demonstrates accountability to the Public for the quality of education offered to students in Nunavut’s schools. As a whole, the Educator Development Division is mandated to ensure that Nunavut’s educators are appropriately trained to effectively deliver the Territory’s Education program including curriculum, assessment and student support. As such, the Division and its Unit undertake a range of duties that include: (a) developing and delivering training targeted to educators such as principals, learning coaches, classroom teachers and specialized school staff such as Student Support Assistants and Ilianniarvimmi Inuusilirijiit; (b) ensuring educators are in possession of and maintain adequate certification(s); and (c) providing targeted supports for orientation, mentorship opportunities, and improved professional practices.In successfully carrying out this position’s responsibilities, the Manager, Educator Development must effectively function as the Department’s principal contact on matters relating to educator development and providing advice and guidance as needed. This responsibility involves managing a budget of $500,000 and supervising 4 staff: Orientation and Mentorship Coordinators (x2), and Certification and Standards Coordinators (x2). As it relates to these direct reports, the incumbent performs supervisory duties including: directly assigning work, assessing employee performance and dealing with performance issues which may arise.The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Education or Adult Education (a Master’s Degree is considered an asset) plus 5 years’ experience in education; and 1 year experience in program and project development and implementation at the school, regional, or territorial level. In addition to this, the ideal candidate should have experience with wide variety of teaching approaches and methodologies such as differentiation, particularly those appropriate to a bilingual context and have knowledge of adult learning and development. Strong working knowledge of Department’s philosophy, educational principals, beliefs and pedagogy is required as well as knowledge of the Nunavut school system / structure and knowledge of bilingual/bicultural education, models of instruction and community / culture-based education. The incumbent must also have experience facilitating and be capable of preparing and delivery of training tools, materials and workshops targeted to a range of audiences as well as being a skilled project manager capable of managing a program or project budget and balancing multiple competing priorities. Ability to work with tools (e.g. computers), IT systems (i.e. record tracking systems, communication tools/software applications) and software (e.g. MS Office Suite, Adobe Suite, Website, Social Media etc.) are required as part of this job. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French.
