Job Description

The Prince George Native Friendship Centre (PGNFC) delivers programs and services through a lens of reconciliation, as we have been doing since the inception of the PGNFC for the past 50 years. A key component of this journey is ensuring the voices of each person is heard and included in our trauma informed and culturally dynamic approach; this perspective is critical to reconciliation. We respect and honour people #39;s stories as they share their experiences, perspectives, and beliefs in the direction we are taking as an organization; we view this as a strengths-based process, where we build upon the multitude and diversity of existing strengths.Prince George Native Friendship CentreAre you skilled developing and delivering prevention, wellness and risk reduction activities that are culturally relevant to the community Come join our Native Healing Centre team as a:Child and Youth Support Worker (full time)Indigenous Childamp; Youth Wellness ProgramThe Support Worker with the Indigenous Childamp; Youth Wellness Program will develop and deliver prevention, wellness and risk reduction activities that are culturally relevant to the community; in the format of individual counselling (in person and virtually); groups, camps and workshops.The team provides holistic services to primarily Indigenous people. The position includes working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, offering support for emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual health. The role includes crisis intervention, referral and advocacy, individual outreach counselling, facilitating cultural connections, group facilitation, case management and other supportive services. The successful candidate will have:

  • A Degree in Social Work or any relevant field; experience will be considered an asset
  • Certification in or willing to obtain: First Aid, Food Safe, Suicide Intervention, and Conflict Resolution.
  • Ability to undergo a successful criminal record search and MCFD pre-screening requirement.
  • Workshop facilitation skills
  • Knowledge of restorative justice and healing
  • Depression/suicide/mental health assessment training
  • Trauma-informed practice
  • Ability to work independently with strong sense of focus, task-oriented, nonjudgmental, open-minded qualities, and a clear sense of professional boundaries
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse families and communities with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A strong sense of and respect for confidentiality
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Preference will be given to qualified applicants of Indigenous ancestry. In accordance with section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code
  • Wages $31/hr. - $34/hr. based on experience and qualifications
