Job Description

Together we are stronger and achieve moreViterra is currently seeking a skilled individual to join our Building Services team in a casual capacity. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in operating and maintain various HVAC systems, including low-pressure steam plant, chiller systems, pneumatic systems, and building controls systems, in addition to proficiency in carpentry for performing building upkeep roles. This position requires strict adherence to policies and procedures to ensure the efficient operation of all auxiliary systems and equipment.Key Responsibilities:

  • Follows procedures in safeguarding building and property from damage, loss, or improper use.
  • Inspects and maintains the operation of low-pressure steam boilers, pumps, hot water heaters, fans, chiller, electrical motors, air compressors and auxiliary equipment and performs preventative maintenance. Makes minor repairs and maintenance adjustments.
  • Inspects and maintains the operation of other equipment such as chiller machine, cooling tower, refrigeration units, air conditioners, hot water steam converters and exhaust fans. Performs preventative maintenance and makes repairs and adjustments.
  • Performs general maintenance functions including carpentry, painting, plumbing and floor, ceiling and drywall installations associated with capital projects and renovations.
  • Responsible for office moves including relocating and setting up workstations, as well as moving files and furniture.
  • Moves filing boxes into storage and relocates boxes as required. Ensures file storage areas are clean and free from moisture.
  • Checks the operation of standby power generators on a regular basis and logs.
  • Tests water for hardness, fills brine tank with salt and regenerates water softener as necessary and records the brine density and water consumption after each regeneration. Regularly cleans and maintains hot water reheating coils on a rotating annual basis.
  • Tests cooling tower water and chilled water loops for proper chemical content and adds chemicals as required.
  • Performs daily checks of sprinkler system, fire alarm and firefighting equipment and makes minor repairs as required.
  • Repairs, maintains, and cleans miscellaneous equipment including seed quality and control equipment, snow removal and cafeteria equipment.
  • Performs basic security functions for the company building and property including assisting receptionist with security related issues, patrolling the parking lot, monitoring security video cameras, and requesting removal of illegally parked vehicles.
  • Removes snow, ice and other debris from building entrances, sidewalks, and parking lots to ensure safety.
  • Performs regular checks of the premises and designated areas while on shift. Ensures entrance and doors through the building are secured.
  • Supervises and assists contractors performing work in the building as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Must have knowledge of the operation and maintenance of chiller, boilers, pumps, cooling tower and a building operating system network.
Education and Qualifications:
  • Minimum of two (2) years #39; experience in the operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment, including experience in the operation of boilers.
  • Grade 12 or equivalent, along with a 5th Class Stationary Engineers Certificate and a Refrigeration Engineers Certificate or a combination of a 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate and TSASK ticket.
  • Ability to work shift work including weekends and holidays.
