Job Description

**Position Overview:**Reporting to the Director of Tax Operations, the Senior Tax Manager will lead a team responsible for all facets of transaction tax compliance in both Canada and the US.This role involves engaging in tax research, compliance, audits, and driving process improvements, along with other assigned departmental projects.**Key Responsibilities:**- Oversee the accurate and timely preparation and filing of sales and excise tax returns in the US and Canada.- Review and approve tax compliance working papers and account reconciliations.- Manage, mentor, and develop junior tax staff, ensuring high-quality tax services while nurturing internal and external relationships.- Provide tax expertise and audit support to warehouse personnel in both the US and Canada.- Direct large-scale, complex tax projects, ensuring that timelines and budgets are adhered to. Address issues and make decisions on intricate tax matters.- Advise on tax regulations and the implications of changes in tax laws, offering strategies to minimize tax liabilities.- Conduct necessary tax research and prepare technical memoranda when appropriate.- Stay updated on federal and state legislative developments, analyzing their impact on operations.- Build and maintain strong working relationships with warehouse and corporate personnel.- Clearly communicate with internal staff, taxing authorities, and external service providers regarding tax compliance issues.- Actively seek out opportunities for process enhancements, data management improvements, and overall efficiencies.- Participate in various Tax Department projects as assigned.- There may be some travel within Canada and the US. - Perform other duties as required.**Desired Skills:**- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clarify complex tax concepts for both internal and external stakeholders. - Detail-oriented, with strong analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities.- Strong managerial skills, capable of leading, mentoring, and developing a team while fostering internal and external relationships.- Proficient in handling complex issues and critically evaluating tax strategies, regulations, and operational needs.- Demonstrated work ethic with the ability to meet tight deadlines across multiple competing projects.- Able to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.**Qualifications:** -Business Degree or Diploma with a focus on Accounting or Tax, or a Master #39;s in Taxation.- At least 8 years of progressive experience in public accounting and/or within a corporate tax department, managing high-volume tax compliance.- Proven leadership experience as a Senior Tax Manager or Senior Tax Team Lead.- Advanced knowledge of tax laws, particularly those relevant to Excise/Sales Tax, with specific experience in US tax.- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential.Powered by JazzHR
