Project Coordinator - Disaster MitigationAdministrative Officer R18An eligibility list may be established for future permanent and/or temporary opportunities.There is currently one temporary appointment until March 25, 2022.Your skills, confidence and initiative will be valued in this challenging roleEmergency Management British Columbia (EMBC) is the lead coordinating agency in the provincial government for all emergency management activities. As such, EMBC’s mission is to be responsible to British Columbians for leading the management of provincial level emergencies and disasters and supporting other authorities within their areas of jurisdiction. EMBC works directly with local authorities, First Nations, provincial ministries and agencies, federal departments, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), industry and volunteers in all hazard mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.The EMBC Disaster Mitigation Unit is focused on providing funding to communities to implement disaster mitigation programs and projects, including foundational elements such as risk assessments, mapping, and mitigation planning, as well as structural and non-structural mitigation projects. The Disaster Mitigation Unit also provides technical advice and analysis on community vulnerability related to disasters and contributes to provincial risk reduction and climate adaptation strategies.Guided by the United Nations’ Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction to manage and mitigate natural hazards across the Province, priority actions for the Disaster Mitigation Unit include supporting a whole-of-society approach to:Understanding disaster riskStrengthening disaster risk governanceInvesting in disaster risk reduction for resilienceEnhancing disaster preparedness for effective response, and to “Build Back Better” in recovery, rehabilitation, and reconstructionThe Project Coordinator provides technical project management coordination functions for EMBC’s Disaster Mitigation Unit for a variety of small to large scale projects throughout the project management life-cycle (i.e., initiation, planning, execution, control and close-out). Activities include drafting contracts and amendments, financial tracking, reporting, reimbursing claims, preparing program documentation, developing proposal evaluation criteria, assisting with funding intakes and proposal evaluations, supporting lessons-learned processes, and communicating with funding applicants/recipients.
