Serving the Saanich Peninsula located just north of Victoria, BC, the district has one of the highest graduation rates in the province and a student body that consistently scores well on annual assessment tests, thanks in large part to the dedication and efforts of our 900 teaching and support staff.Current Shift: This is a casual position working as an Indigenous Education Assistant when necessary, up to 30 hours per week.Monday to Friday,10 months per year while regular classes are in session.Pay Rate: $23.15Qualifications and Job Description :This position is an on-call position that provides direct support to the Indigenous students and their teachers at various schools throughout the District when a replacement is needed for one of the school based Indigenous Education AssistantsThe applicant will act as a positive role model for Indigenous studentsApplicants must have demonstrated ability to provide instructional support in a school setting with a willingness to be flexible and adaptable to the needs of the school and studentsApplicants must have demonstrated strong, positive interpersonal skills with students, staff, and the community.Applicants must be willing and able to step in with short notice as this is an on-call position that requires you to cover another employee’s absenceMinimum secondary school graduation, direct or related experience with a preference given to applicants with post-secondary training and experience related to supporting school-aged children/youthPLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT A CUPE POSITION.Pursuant to the Districts Special Program approval, section 42(3) of the BC Human Rights Code, preference may be given to applicants of Indigenous ancestry who can demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to Indigenous culture and ancestry.
