This community of 18,000 residents has a vibrant, small village character and includes the Tsawout and Tsartlip First Nations; and it is central to all amenities of the Greater Victoria area.Reporting directly to the District’s Parks Foreman, this position is responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair and construction of the municipal parks and related services.Duties include:Assists and performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in parks maintenance, repair and construction of the municipal parks infrastructure and associated works system.Assists and performs parks maintenance, repair, construction and horticulture duties in municipal parkland, municipal right-of-ways, landscaping infrastructure and facilities functions.Assists in performing tree removals, hazard deadwood pruning and tree maintenanceAssists in maintaining documentation for preventative maintenance records for playgrounds, irrigation and parks inspections etc.Assists and performs the cleaning and service of public washrooms, paint benches, buildings and other district structures.Assists in minor carpentry, electrical and plumbing functions such as benchAssists and performs parks/playground inspections, locates irrigation heads and drainage cleanouts.Assists in maintaining records associated with the completion of the assigned tasks.Operates the necessary municipal vehicles, tools and equipment to complete the assigned tasks.Responds and deals with enquiries from the public.Performs other related duties, as required.The ideal candidate will possess the following:Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, one (1) years relevant experience in parks operations or an equivalent combination of education, training and experienceA current valid class 5 BC Driver’s LicenseKnowledge of and ability to comply with and follow all pertinent WorkSafe BC and Occupational Health and Safety regulationsAbility to assist and perform common parks maintenance duties in a competent and safe mannerAbility to operate relevant technical applications and working knowledge of local government software applicationsAbility to serve the public in a courteous mannerAbility to establish and maintain good working relationships with the supervisor, other employees, and the general publicAbility to maintain professional, technical and physical requirements for the position.
