This community of 18,000 residents has a vibrant, small village character and includes the Tsawout and Tsartlip First Nations; and it is central to all amenities of the Greater Victoria area.Reporting directly to the Water and Sewer Foreman, this position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in the maintenance, repair and construction of the District’s water distribution and sewer collection systems.Duties include:Assists and performs the maintenance, repair and construction of the municipal water distribution and sewer collection systems.Assists and performs with monitoring records for pumps and pumping stations, meters, hydrants, control panels, alarm systems.Assists and performs sewer inspection system maintenance such as locating manholes and cleanouts.Assists and performs sewer video inspection system maintenance.Assists and performs servicing and maintenance tasks such as changing pumps, cleaning, repairing, replacing valves and ensuring hydrants are maintained to standards.Assists and performs with inspection, maintenance, repair and reading of water meters, exercise valves and uni-directional flushing.Assists and performs pump station maintenance ensuring safety standards, equipment performance and operational procedures are met.Assists in maintaining records associated with the completion of the assigned tasks.Operates the necessary municipal vehicles, tools and heavy equipment.Responds and deals with enquiries from the public.Performs other related duties, as required.The ideal candidate will possess the following:Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, one (1) years relevant experience in water/sewer operations or an equivalent combination of education, training and experienceA current valid class 5 BC Driver’s LicenseKnowledge of and ability to comply with and follow all pertinent WorkSafeBC and Occupational Health and Safety regulationsAbility to assist and perform water distribution and sewer collection systems maintenance tasks and duties in a safe mannerAssist in the operation of relevant technical applications such as SCADA and working knowledge of local government software applicationsAbility to serve the public in a courteous mannerAbility to establish and maintain good working relationships with the supervisor, other employees, and the general publicAbility and willingness to maintain professional, technical and physical requirements for the position. (i.e. maintain confined space, fall protection, fit testing and other safety certifications as required)The wage range for this temporary, 8 hour a day role is $29.78/hr +13% in lieu in of benefits.
