Closing Date: August 26th, 2024 at 4:00 PMLORENZO SOCIETY (FACULTY OF ARTS)Since its inception, The Lorenzo Society at UNB Saint John has presented an impressive selection of cultural activities and events for students and members of the community including performances by the Saint John String Quartet, readings by prominent authors, Indigenous Film Screenings, art exhibits, and the publication of the student literary journal VOX. The mandate of the Lorenzo Society is to host these activities at UNB Saint John for those on campus and in the greater Saint John area. Membership includes students, staff, faculty, members of the Greater Saint John community, and those who live in the Southwestern New Brunswick region. Most of Lorenzo Society events are open to the public and free of charge.WHAT WE OFFERPart-time | Continuing | Saint John | On-CampusStandard Work Hours: Shift Work | Variable Hours | 20 hours per weekSalary Range: $25.07 - $31.34 per hourYOUR FOCUSReporting to the Dean of Arts, the Lorenzo Society Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the Lorenzo Reading Series and the Lorenzo Music Series, as well as advertising and logistics for the Film Series.

  • Prepare the grant application for submission to Canada Council to obtain funding for the Reading Series.
  • Maintain network of contacts with authors and publishers to attract authors to the Reading Series.
  • Identify potential author participants for the Reading Series by reading/reviewing forthcoming releases/manuscripts of soon-­to-be-published and recently-published books.
  • Liaise with UNB faculty regarding opportunities to host authors tied to their course content, and to have faculty co-host event with coordinator or moderate online book clubs.
  • Work with other Atlantic venues to secure locations for the readings.
  • Coordinate the logistics for each author #39;s in person or online visit, including transportation, accommodations, meals, media interviews, venue bookings, and sound equipment.
  • Prepare content for brochures and website, including brief biographies of authors as well as reviews of books from which authors read.
  • Work with artists, designers and printer to execute brochures, posters and other materials.
  • Promote the Lorenzo Series and share hosting of Lorenzo Society Readings and related events.
  • Coordinate with the Campus store to make sure an author #39;s book(s) are available for sale.
  • Maintain records of attendance and books sold.
  • Responsible for budget.
  • Prepare annual program in conjunction with the Music Series Faculty Advisor.
  • Prepare content for website, posters, or other promotional materials to be available by mid-September and early January each year.
  • Liaise with and assist Saint John String Quartet regarding Artist in Residence program.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in English and/or relevant experience in a literary field.
Additional Strengths
  • Experience in writing grant proposals would be an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with diplomatic skills.
  • A knowledge of the Canadian literary scene.
  • Ability to liaise with publishers, authors and other Universities as well as external agencies.
  • Ability to be flexible and problem-solve.
  • Negotiation skills are an asset.
  • Experience in planning and executing events.
