Job Description

Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has been conferred authority to grant certificates and diplomas. SIIT welcomes over 2400 students into our urban and community programs annually as well as serving over 6000 clients through our ten Career Centres across the province. You can contribute to that success while building your career.Nature and ScopeThe Admissions Advisor focuses on supporting applicants through the entire application process at SIIT and advises on options for post-secondary funding and other resources needed to ensure a smooth transition. Working with the Admissionsamp; Advisory Services Department, this position includes communications coordination, and admissions advising to prospective candidates. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT #39;s vision, mission, and mandate. General AccountabilityThe Admissions Advisor will play a key role in front-line provisions by assessing, advising and coordinating new learner applicants at SIIT. The incumbent will actively engage with potential applicants and guide them through the proper process and procedure of admissions in order to become a registered learner.The incumbent is responsible for providing support services required by a new applicant such as exploring personal goals, identifying program requirements and potential support services required to successfully transition into a fully registered learner by using a case-management approach. This position is accountable for follow-up with all SIIT applicants, and ensuring applicants are moving through the application process. This position provides additional support as required and includes the following broad range of accountabilities: Specific AccountabilitiesClient Service

  • Provide confidential admissions advising and follow up with individuals relating to their short and long-term educational and career goals
  • Advise and follow up with interested individuals on current SIIT programs, their application, the necessary pre-requisites and required documents
  • Advise and follow up with applicants who are seeking appropriate internal support services and/or sponsorships for program funding
  • Maintain positive rapport with applicants, stakeholders, faculty and administration
  • Work collaboratively with other departments throughout the Institute
  • Keep current with respect to assigned SIIT program areas and each program #39;s entrance criteria and required qualifications
  • Respond to all interested applicants within timely manner
  • Refer learner applicants to internal or external resources as required
Administrationamp; Coordination
  • Proficiently manage the caseload of applicants within databases
  • Provide technical and professional expertise
  • Utilize other internal databases efficiently and effectively
  • Continually monitor web-based information regarding SIIT current programs
  • Conduct database, literature and web searches to find information to respond to inquiries from learner and community members
  • Stay current with research and strategies relating to best practices in supporting applicants
  • Ensure accurate information gathering, coupled with confidential data collection and documentation
  • Update physical and electronic filing systems with new and current learners
Required Qualifications and Experience: A certificate or diploma in a business-related field is required, with a minimum of one year of experience working with a learner population in an advisory capacity. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations would be an asset. Incumbent must have a valid driver #39;s license and reliable transportation as travel may be required. This position may also be required to work outside of normal business hours (evenings and weekends); travel and flexibility are requirements of this position.
