The work location will be determined by the successful candidates current place of residence.What can I expect to do in this roleIn this role, you will:
  • provide biological/ecological expertise and advice to the review of land use and resource management documents, broad scale or landscape level projects, development proposals, municipal planning initiatives and environmental assessment activities
  • lead the development of broad scale or landscape level natural heritage planning including natural heritage and conservation reserve systems through collaboration with internal and external teams and groups
  • lead the transfer of ecological and ecosystem science and information to project teams, region wide staff and external agencies and clients
  • prepare technical reports and briefing notes and make presentations on the ecological or ecosystem aspects of broad scale or landscape level land use and resource management plans including the identification of potential impacts to conservation reserves or natural heritage values
  • support the development of policies, guidelines and procedures and monitor the implementation of program and policy changes on ecological values, processes or systems
Note: some occasional travel may be required to observe aggregates operations via site visits, which may require travel on rugged terrain and exposure to the dust, noise from operation of processing and heavy equipment.How do I qualifyMandatory requirements:
  • You must have a valid class G drivers licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid drivers licence upon being hired.
Technical expertise:
  • You have demonstrated knowledge and experience with ecosystem management and conservation biology with emphasis on population and community ecology and ecosystem processes, structures and functions and the techniques to support the objective of sustainable ecosystem management.
  • You have knowledge of Crown and municipal land use planning, resource management planning, environmental assessment, relevant legislation and related policies, principles and practices.
Analytical skills:
  • You have analytical skills to identify areas of under representation from a site region perspective and to undertake data synthesis and analysis and apply that information in the design of systems or approaches for natural heritage and conservation reserve targets and to achieve ecological sustainability.
  • You have the ability to apply technical knowledge and natural resource protection and conservation objectives, current information and science to land use and resource management plans, projects or proposals.
  • You have an ability to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and related technology for the acquisition, visualization and analysis of ecological data.
Communication skills:
  • You have well-developed communication skills to make presentations, provide technical advice and guidance, discuss technical information and provide training.
  • You can prepare technical reports, briefing materials, and corporate correspondence.
Facilitation skills and consensus building:
  • You can facilitate and build consensus effectively when there is a need to reconcile diverse interests of project teams, agencies, non-government organizations and the public in the development of natural heritage and conservation reserve systems.
  • You have group leadership and relationship management skills to lead and support planning and task teams and develop and maintain effective relationships with external clients.
Project management and organizational skills:
  • You can lead and organize project teams in the development of regional natural heritage and related initiatives to achieve ecological sustainability.
  • You have solid project management skills to develop terms of reference, organize and assign tasks, coordinate and monitor project work.
