Job Code: 22EASPA64-REPOSTEA/SPA/ECESPECIAL PROGRAM ASSISTANT - CHEF The Upper Grand District School Boards (UGDSB) 4,000 plus dedicated teaching and support staff provide student success to over 35,000 students who attend our 65 elementary schools and 11 secondary schools in the City of Guelph, County of Wellington and County of Dufferin. This is a 10- month position (September to June) to start as soon as possible.CONSIDERATION OF APPLICATIONS: Applications from employees within the UGDSB as well as external applicants will be accepted. Applicants will be considered in the following order, in accordance with the relevant Collective Agreement articles.1) Qualified permanent ESSP Bargaining Unit employees2) Qualified casual ESSP Bargaining Unit employees3) Qualified external applicants (includes employees from other Bargaining Units)FTE/HOURS: 1.0 FTE; 35 hours per week; permanent LOCATION: Centre Dufferin District Secondary SchoolHOURLY RATE: $25.88 to $32.35 per hour, plus applicable vacation payRESPONSIBILITIES: Safety & Sanitation:
  • With the teacher, ensure shop/storage areas always comply with safety and sanitation standards
  • Ensure all equipment is shut off and all food is stored appropriately at the end of the day
  • Before each class, ensure that laundry is washed and put away; daily hairnets and apron are available for every student; hand washing area is appropriately equipped and sanitation and hygiene rules are followed
Program Delivery:
  • Assist the teacher to instruct the class using various techniques (i.e. how to read recipes, how to use equipment safely)
  • Be a positive and professional role model (i.e. wear uniform and hairnet during shop instruction)
  • Assist the teacher in supervising students in the classroom, shop, etc.
  • Assist in the planning of the lunch menu and the preparation and delivery of lunch each day for both students and staff
Administrative:
  • Check foodstuffs are supplied and make orders as required
  • Prepare deposit for bank from cafeteria daily receipts and create cheques for payment of invoices using a computer generated banking program; maintain these banking records for review purposes
  • Prepare and keep financial, catering and other records as instructed by teacher or department head
  • Organize catering orders for the day and execute, in cooperation with teacher
  • Ensure catering orders are picked up and paid for
  • Assist in inventory control and with costing
Other:
  • Participate in professional development programs and assist in school functions
  • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in Culinary Arts, Culinary Management, Culinary Skills or a combination of formal education and work experience deemed equivalent by the Board
  • Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Two years experience as a Chef or Cook
  • Up-to-date knowledge of cooking techniques and recipes
  • Hands-on experience with various kitchen equipment
  • Advanced knowledge of culinary, baking and pastry techniques
  • Leadership skills
  • Excellent time management abilities
  • Familiarity with sanitation regulations
  • A valid Behaviour Management Systems certification would be an asset
