Job Description

Behavioural SpecialistJoin CASA Mental Health in shaping a brighter future for children, youth and families by providing them with timely mental health care and empowering them to thrive.Job DetailsSalary range/Wage range: $40.20 - $50.95 hourly Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day (days and evenings) Primary location: CASA HouseUnion: In-scopeClassification:Unit LeadFTE: 1.00Status: Permanent ​About the RoleCASA House is a live-in program for teens who need support with significant mental health and/or addictions challenges. Teens stay at CASA House for an average of four months. The program involves parents and caregivers as active participants in treatment. Treatment includes individual, group and family therapy, social and life skills training, and on-site schooling in small classroom settings.The Behavioural Specialist will:

  • Develop and assist with implementation of individual treatment plans, behavioural plans, and/or safety plans for children or adolescents with internalizing and externalizing difficulties using a variety of treatment approaches with a heavy emphasis on effective, evidence based cognitive and behavioural principles.
  • Observing, recording, and evaluating a patient #39;s behavior
  • Developing treatment plans in collaboration with the MDT, based on their evaluation, design behavioral treatment strategies and intervention plans
  • Provides leadership and direction to a team of Child Care Counsellors.
  • Contributes to an environment that encourages continuous learning, application of knowledge, critical thinking and application of research.
  • Engages and supports the multidisciplinary team in the planning and implementation of programming.
  • Attends and constructively participates in program and clinical team meetings and monitors the follow up/action items required of Child Care Counsellors.
  • Ensures open reporting about patient safety events including near misses or concerns.
  • Provides leadership by identifying patient safety issues and initiating remedial action in consultation with staff.
  • Is safety conscious on the job, works in a safe manner, and cooperates with management in health and safety measures.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a behavioral science program, psychology, education or social work; with Board- Certified Behavior Analyst certification.
  • CASA may also accept candidates that are working towards BCBA certification who possess 2 years of applied behavioural analysis or related experience in an education or mental health setting.
  • Degree in social work, education, applied behavioral analysis, BA or BSc with a major in psychology or related field with additional Behavioral Interventionist Certificate of Achievement (BICA) and a minimum of 5 years of ABA experience may be considered.
  • Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience with mood concerns, learning disabilities, executive dysfunction, and/or personality disorder traits is preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience is an asset.
Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • A satisfactory Child Intervention Check.
  • Behavioural Interventions Certificate of Achievement (BICA)
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
