Job Description

Open to: Internal and External candidates. Those internal candidates, who are already approved Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) classified substitutes should not apply to this new job posting.EIPS requires individuals to work on a casual on-call basis as substitute Educational Assistants.Key Duties/Responsibilities:Educational Assistants (EAs) assist teachers with many instructional and non-instructional tasks in the classroom and with other school activities. EAs work as members of the school and student support team. EAs can work with a particular special needs student, a group of students within a class or in a special program. EAs may provide personal care and additional assistance for students depending on their particular needs.Duties will include:

  • working with students individually or in small groups
  • working with students with disabilities
  • lifts, transfers, and personal care of students may be required
Education/Experience:Requirement: High School DiplomaCandidates having the following qualifications would be considered an asset:
  • training or experience working with students with disabilities
  • behaviour management training
  • courses related to working with students with special needs
  • excellent interpersonal skills
  • the ability to work with students under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher
  • the ability to provide personal care for students
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
  • Educational Assistant Certificate or comparable education
