The school is located in Sherwood Park, AB.Westboro Elementary is an educational community where people work collaboratively to develop their own, as well as each others potential. The school believes forging a partnership with the home is essential to maximizing student development intellectually, emotionally, socially, creatively and physically.Commencing September 20, 202132.5 hours per week, 6.5 hours per day (Monday to Friday)Open to internal and external candidatesPriority will be given to internal candidatesElk Island Public Schools provides a comprehensive benefits package to all permanent employees.This assignment will be with the Steps to Enhance Personal Success (STEPS) Program.The Steps to Enhance Personal Success (STEPS) Program is a system program, with smaller classes for targeted instruction, designed to meet the needs of students with severe to profound developmental disabilities. These students may have physical, sensory or behavioural challenges, and/or medical conditions requiring special accommodations. The focus of the program is to build functional and communication skills that enhance quality of life within a safe and structured learning environment, with regular routines and close supervision. Flexible and responsive instruction is guided by an Instructional Support Plan (ISP), builds on individual strengths and needs, and follows the Alberta Education Programs of Study, with adaptations or modifications as necessary. High school STEPS students will receive a high school Certificate of Completion, rather than a High School Diploma.Key Duties/ResponsibilitiesEducational Assistants (EAs) assist teachers with many instructional and non-instructional tasks in the classroom and with other school activities. EAs work as members of the school and student support team. EAs either work with a particular special needs student or a group of students within a class or in a special program.The EA provides routine and repetitive instructional support. Under the direction of the teacher, an EA assists the student in acquiring the education and skills necessary for advancement in the educational setting. To reach this objective, the EA follows an individually prescribed learning program, through team planning and working one-on-one with the student(s). This involves routine recording, basic charting and logging of observations.
