Job Description

Your Opportunity:Environmental Services employees provide coverage of shifts/areas, as required, and perform a variety of cleaning services within a hospital environment in compliance with AHS and departmental policies, procedures and standards. Duties include, but are not limited to, cleaning of clinical and non-clinical areas, including occupied and discharge/transfer patient rooms as well as isolation and project cleaning and waste stream management. Physical requirements of this position include: bending, kneeling, walking and standing for extended periods of time, lifting, pushing or pulling heavy and bulky items, and utilization of Institutional cleaning products and equipment. Environmental Services is a patient and customer-service focused department consisting of approximately 6000 employees provincially. Environmental Services is responsible for the 24 hour/7 days per week maintenance of Alberta Health Services hospital’s environmental cleaning and waste stream management functions. All new employees will be required to attend a 4-day Environmental Services Orientation and a 1- day Alberta Health Services Orientation. A Candidate Assessment will be done at time of interview. Preference will be given to applicants who are available to work a minimum of two weekends per month. For internal AHS and Environmental Services applicants: Two professional references are required upon interview. For External applicants: The following must be provided at the time of interview: 2 professional references.Description:As an Environmental II, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks associated with intensive or specialized cleaning within a hospital or facility associated with industrial cleaning supplies and by using powered industrial equipment. Your typical duties may include operating industrial cleaning equipment for floor maintenance, thorough washing of ceilings and windows and emptying hazardous waste. You may also provide training/orientation to Environmental staff.

Required Qualifications:Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Knowledge and operation of a computer including Microsoft Office. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform repetitive movements for the duration of your shift. Physically capable to lift, push and pull up to 30 lbs of force.Additional Required Qualifications:Basic knowledge of computer programs, such as email, is required. Applicants must have, at minimum, basic computer skills. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, understand and follow written and oral directions in English. Must be able to work with minimal supervision.Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to those applicants that have previous experience performing environmental cleaning duties in a hospital or institution, as well as extensive knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, basic maintenance and troubleshooting. Previous knowledge and application of WHMIS would be an asset. A combination of education, training and relevant experience, including customer-service experience, may be considered.Quick Apply
