Job Description

Job DescriptionThis posting is for 2 summer positions working out of the Ardrossan Recreation Complex, Strathcona County Community Centre and Remote as needed.Calling Strathcona County Rural Youth and Young Adults! Strathcona County has 2 summer opportunities to work as Rural Development and Outreach Coordinators (RDOC) who will work collaboratively to support holistic well-being of rural youth and young adults through community collaboration, research, and service provision. This is an excellent opportunity for students who are interested in a future career working with youth, social services or the education field.Responsibilities

  • Establish connections and partnerships with rural schools, non-profits, and volunteer organizations
  • Participate in the development and delivery of outreach activities in rural Strathcona County to connect youth and young adults to local resources and programs
  • Utilize various forms of social media and print materials to inform youth and young adults of events, initiatives, and opportunities
  • Participate in the planning, preparation, and promotion of activities, programs, workshops and events for rural youth
  • Connect rural youth and young adults to opportunities to interact with businesses, recreation, policy makers, and youth serving organizations, to help ensure their lived experiences and voices have an impact and help steer change
  • Lead the revitalization of youth and young adult recreation spaces, including the Ardrossan Youth Lounge
  • Research best practices related to issues and trends impacting youth and young adults
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and social skills with a strong team focus
  • Strong organizational skills and creativity with the ability to work independently
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity and comfort using social media
  • Ability to create a physically and emotionally safe environment for all; ability to accommodate any setup required for programming purposes
  • Ability to adhere to safety protocols, ethics, and professional codes of conduct, as well as municipal guidelines
  • Ability to identify potential issues, hazardous situations, and concerns, and redirect these to the supervisor
  • Responsible, reliable, and able to work independently
Qualifications
  • High school diploma (or working toward) and one year working or volunteering with the public in a service or recreation setting is strongly encouraged
  • Experience working or volunteering with children and/or youth is an asset
  • Knowledge or experience in rural or agricultural settings is an asset
  • Current First Aid/CPR is an asset
  • Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check required.
  • Valid Alberta Driver’s Licence is a requirement, and access to a personal vehicle is an asset.
