Job Description

Job Summary: The Agriculture Technician – Equipment Maintenance is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of farm machinery and equipment to ensure operational efficiency and minimal downtime. This role involves hands-on work with a variety of agricultural equipment, requiring expertise in mechanical systems, diagnostic skills, and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement. Role and Accountability:

  • Perform routine maintenance on tractors, harvesters, sprayers, and other agricultural machinery, ensuring they are in optimal working condition.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and troubleshoot problems quickly, using diagnostic tools to identify necessary repairs or adjustments.
  • Complete equipment repairs, including engine work, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and transmissions, while adhering to manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
  • Maintain a detailed record of repairs, services, and maintenance performed, ensuring compliance with maintenance schedules.
  • Implement preventative maintenance strategies to reduce downtime and extend the lifespan of equipment.
  • Collaborate with the farm team to ensure equipment is available and prepared for seasonal tasks such as planting, harvesting, and irrigation.
  • Manage inventory of spare parts and supplies, working with the procurement team to ensure necessary parts are stocked and accessible.
  • Provide training to farm staff on the proper operation and basic maintenance of machinery to promote safe and efficient equipment use.
  • Stay informed on new technologies, tools, and repair techniques that can enhance equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and promote a culture of safety, ensuring that all repairs and maintenance are conducted following industry and company standards.
  • Utilize Microsoft To-Do for task tracking and reminders to ensure efficient organization and completion of daily tasks, promoting productivity and accountability within the Department.
  • Leads by example, fostering teamwork, mutual respect, and continuous improvement
  • throughout all operational activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Understanding of farm operations and farm machinery.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems and repair and maintenance procedures.
  • Familiarity with workplace safety precautions, particularly in an agricultural setting.
  • Basic understanding of purchasing procedures and supplier relationships.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft To-Do and other office software for task tracking and organization.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in a similar role in an agricultural or automotive setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with farm equipment and parts sourcing processes.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory management principles.
  • Previous experience in using inventory management software is an asset.
  • Valid Ontario G Driver’s License.
