Job Description

The Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation is seeking a Part-time Accounting Officer. This position manages the daily and monthly financial requirements of the Foundation which include but are not limited to:Banking- Reconciles all bank accounts on a monthly basis- Monitors cash flows and investments in keeping with Foundation policy and currentyear budget- Prepares cheques to pay approved invoices- Processes credit card receipts- Records HST invoices and applies for partial recovery of HST- Prepares accurate bank deposits from all sources and makes Foundation deposits- Responsible for pre-authorized donation setup and maintenance- Responsible for tracking and processing monthly and/or yearly donations and pledgesRecords- Accepts donations and provides receipts to donors- Accurately records and processes in-kind stock/mutual fund donations and otherdonations of real property- Reconciles transfers made to Grey Bruce Health Services corporation for equipmentpurchases- Maintains documentation of financial procedures- Ensures that the documents pertaining to the Signing Officers of the Foundation areup to date and complete- Ensures compliance with CRA rules and regulations governing charities- Ensures maintenance of donor accounting software- Work with Accounting firm provide all documents for annual Year End and AuditBoard ReportingPrepares monthly Financial Statement package for the Finance committee to review and takes to the Board of Directors including: monthly Financial Report; comparatives of budget to actual and actual to prior year; monthly investment schedule. Reports at the Board meeting and also prepares the agenda and minutes for the Finance committee.Prepares draft annual operating budget for AGM, with the guidance of the Executive Director and Finance Committee.Additional responsibilities include maintaining the donor database, preparing reports and statistics and assisting at special events when needed.This position is two days a week with some flexibility as to which days.Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a college-level accounting/finance diploma program
  • Up to 5 years’ experience in an accounting/finance role, preferably in a non-profit/charitable environment
  • Sound knowledge of CRA Regulations for Registered Charities
  • Strong computer and technical skills, including proficiency pre-authorized payment software, QuickBooks and Excel. Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs is required.
  • Proven attention to detail and accurate data entry
· Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality
  • Well-developed verbal, written, problem-solving and decision making skills
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities, organize and prioritize workflow while being self-motivated.
  • Demonstrated excellent judgment, discretion and initiative in dealing with confidential information and/or in responding to inquiries
  • Ability to work independently
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as required
