Evergreen Catholic Schools is a school division in the Province of Alberta that consists of eleven schools in five communities with over 4,300 students and 450 employees. We prefer all applicants create an online profile to successfully attach your application to this posting.Indigenous Community Engagement CoordinatorA Community Engagement Coordinator works alongside Evergreen Catholic staff, teachers, and parents to ensure that the needs and desires of Indigenous families are being supported while attending our schools. The Community Engagement Coordinator will create relational spaces which make it possible for families to communicate their hopes, wishes, concerns, and ideas regarding education. This role requires that strong connections are built between Indigenous communities, Indigenous families and students, and Evergreen Catholic staff.In order to effectively ensure that the cultural, spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical needs of students are met, the Community Engagement Coordinator will provide spaces to build and maintain meaningful relationships. The Engagement Coordinator will also have knowledge of internal and external supporting services and will be capable of aligning those services for the direct benefit of Indigenous families.An Engagement Coordinator May:

  • Provide information and referrals to local service providers
  • Assist families in connecting to cultural events and ceremony
  • Advocate for families and students that need unique support in education
  • Plan and facilitate events for families in the community. Examples include:
    • Family fun nights
    • Information sessions (education, cultural, family support, traditional parenting)
    • Cultural Opportunities (beading, ribbon skirt making, swing teachings, feasts, ceremony)
The initial training for the Community Engagement Coordinator will include visiting each school, learning more about services that are offered to Evergreen Catholic students, reaching out to self-Identified Indigenous student families, and arranging time to meet with staff to assess the educational needs of Indigenous students.This position is a 0.2 FTE and has the potential for growth after the first year. As this is a new position within Evergreen Catholic, there is an opportunity to advance this initiative in a way that feels culturally and spiritually in line with the needs of parents and families. The Engagement Coordinator will be a leader in the Evergreen Catholic Division and it is expected that the person in this position will follow the professional guidelines set forth by the division.The Engagement Coordinator Will:
  • Have a Bachelor of Education degree (a Masters degree is preferred) with at least 2 years of teaching experience.
  • Have a strong knowledge of Indigenous history, culture and contemporary lived realities.
  • Be an individual who self-Identifies and has membership with a First Nation, Métis or Inuit community
  • Be someone who is local or understands the communities in which Evergreen Catholic schools are situated.
  • Have connections to the Indigenous community (urban or rural)
  • Has an awareness of local services benefitting Indigenous families and communities
