IT Systems SpecialistRegular Full-TimePlay a critical role delivering solutions in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment! We are seeking a qualified andorganized Systems Specialist to join our IT team who will be responsible for maintaining and monitoring the District’sNetwork, Servers, and Systems, and assisting the IT Support Specialists with higher level support cases. This positionrequires sound experience along with the drive to continuously learn and keep up to date on technology and emergingtrends. Successful candidates must have the ability to manage complex systems in a busy, open environment, while alsoproviding friendly support to end-users as required.The IT Systems Specialist will manage, maintain and continue to build on the District’s virtual systems infrastructure. Thisincludes upgrading, maintaining, and monitoring of system hardware and software that supports 50+ virtual servers onseveral hosts connected to core SAN infrastructure.What we’re looking for: You are an experienced IT professional with exceptional technical and analytical skills. Primary responsibilities include maintaining the District’s virtual server technology, ensuring the network isoperating effectively, and taking care that critical systems and data are backed up regularly.This position is part of the team responsible for ensuring the organization’s network and systems are protected and secure,which may include providing security related training to end users.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESCustomer Service

  • Follows the District of Squamish’s Customer Service Guidelines to ensure the Delivery of Outstanding Service.
Systems Specialist Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Compiles regular reports on the health and usage of District system and network and on the status of current projects.
  • Maintains and regularly updates District’s enterprise systems including Email, Spam Defence, Anti-virus, File Servers,
Finance/ERP, Document Management and others. Also maintains and manages related backups. Actively learns andkeeps up-to-date on how to use, optimize, and maintain these systems.
  • Maintains and regularly updates core system databases, ensuring they are optimized and functioning well.
  • Administers Active Directory network, including users, groups, computers, and security.
  • Manages and maintains District’s Server Infrastructure including physical and virtual machines and their Operating
Systems.
  • Trains and gives guidance to the Support Specialist on how to use and support District systems, client software, and
hardware.
  • Provides security related training to end users on an as needed basisPerforms Support Specialist duties, resolves Help
Desk requests, and takes responsibility for higher level support cases.
  • Monitors and has a good understanding of District’s physical wired and wireless network infrastructure including
switches, routers, and radios.
  • Is proactive in communicating with all areas of the organization to gain feedback on current systems and user
software. Uses feedback and research to find, test, and implement new solutions that improve users’ processes,productivity, and experience.
  • Interacts and negotiates with vendors to attain required hardware and software products for the District and makes
use of their maintenance and support resources as needed.
  • Prepares and routinely updates system, software, and procedure manuals for internal department and regular staff
use.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to deal with people in a professional manner.
  • Thorough knowledge of several business applications from a business process perspective.
  • Thorough knowledge of a full range of specialized programming tools and languages or technical procedures.
  • Thorough academic and practical knowledge of computer, computer programming, applications, and support in an IT
environment.
  • Considerable knowledge of network infrastructure, design, and operation for all technology layers
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cybersecurity practices and industry standards related to networks and
telecommunications
  • Knowledge of the methods and principles used in training others in software applications.
  • Ability to respond to, and investigate and resolve integrated administrative, technical or operating problems using
standard methodologies and procedures.
  • Ability to evaluate and identify problems or needs and provide recommendations.
  • Ability to establish priorities, plan projects, and schedule resources and work assignments of self, consultants and
others.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines established according to corporate priorities
  • Ability to think logically and analytically in a problem solving environment
REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bondable
  • Able to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License with a safe driving record
  • Four (4) years directly related experience
AND
  • Completion of a two-year accredited technical diploma program in computer sciences or a related field including
network and communication systems coursesOR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a directly related field from a recognized institution plus 2 years directly related experience
OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience
