In collaboration with the courts of Alberta, Court and Justice Services provides various programs and services including educating and helping Albertans finding solutions for legal issues and navigating the court system, offering programs at no cost or a nominal charge, and administrative support to all courts in Alberta.RoleSt. Paul King’s Bench Judicial is looking for an independent and enthusiastic Court Co-ordinator with strong leadership and problem-solving skills to join their team.The position is administratively responsible to the Manager, Court Coordination, but functionally responsible to the Judiciary. You will be responsible for contributing to the daily activities that provide effective delivery of all aspects of King’s Bench Judicial. In addition, providing guidance, leadership and training to your team will be a critical aspect of your duties.Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Efficient and effective Scheduling of the civil, Family and criminal court case in accordance with various legislation, policies, procedures and directions of the Court.
  • Ensuring a well-balanced workload for the assigned judiciary.
  • Providing assistance to the public and legal community by interpreting and answering procedural questions in relation to relevant legislation, policies and procedures, directions of the court.
  • Ensure pre-trial conferences are arranged and held in accordance with the Court of King’s Bench criminal proceedings rules and the supervising justice.
  • Responsible for effective management of the interdependencies between the Judiciary, Court Administration, Crown Counsel, members of the Bar, self-represented litigants, as well as other government agencies and members of the public through the exercise of tact and diplomacy as necessary to accomplish the objective.
  • In consultation with supervising justice identify issues of concern and modify procedures as needed.
  • In conjunction with the supervising justice and Court Coordination Manager assist with the formulation of operational plans and development of policy to assist the court.

  • Have knowledge of the Alberta Rules of Court, The Provincial court Act, Criminal Code, Federal and Provincial Statutes, Youth Criminal Justice Act, and other such Regulations, practice notes and notices to the profession.
QualificationsRequired:Two-year diploma in related field such as public administration, business administration or judicial administration plus at least 5 years progressively responsible related experience.Preference will be given to candidates who have the following:
  • Supervisory experience and/or supervisory training
  • An extensive knowledge of the following legislation governing this court, Criminal Code, Provincial statues, Alberta Rules of Court, policy directives, procedure manual and financial controls.
  • Experience using these government programs: QBSS, JOIN, and CASES
  • Experience in an administrative role working in a Courthouse
  • Experience working with 1GX
  • Experience working with the Document Hub (aka SharePoint)
  • Thorough knowledge of the Human Resource Policies/Procedures with respect to staffing, evaluation, and disciplinary action
Equivalency: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of:
  • One (1) year of experience for one year of education
  • One (1) year of education for one year of experience.
