Job Description

Your Opportunity:The Rural East North Zone Supervisor is a key leadership role in the delivery of Laboratory Services at the Cold Lake, Bonnyville, St.Paul and Elk Point rural hospital laboratories.Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Clinical Supervisor is responsible for day to day leadership of people to ensure completion, safety and operational delivery of rural clinical lab services. You will provide direct support to the Manager, Director and Laboratory sites as appropriate; and when assigned, in the absence of management, assume responsibilities as required. In conjunction with the Manager, you will build and develop team approaches to meet APL’s mission, vision and values; ensuring to address and resolve issues as they arise which do not align with these. The Supervisor will communicate regularly and effectively with staff to ensure understanding of policies, processes and expectations. Ensure the efficient use of human resources in providing the most effective and efficient delivery of client service/patient care, including participating in workforce planning. Participates as requested in the formation of tactics to support strategy, including development or administration of policy and programs which support patient care, including planning which is done in conjunction with Laboratory Management. Provides leadership for supporting the strategic direction of their areas of laboratory sites. Implements and supports new or modified approaches, practices and processes in the organization. Teaches, trains and helps develop the skills of others through coaching and guidance including participation in succession planning strategies.Description:Specific Accountabilities: Directly involved in the recruitment of in-scope staff. Overseeing and/or assisting with departmental orientation for new staff including technical, safety and organizational familiarization. Working with leadership, ensures regular training and tracking of training is obtained as required. Will engage, evaluate and support the performance of staff, providing commendation and/or correction when required. Follows human resources and APL policies and applies the collective agreement as appropriate. Participates in discipline, grievances and investigations as required. Participates as required with payroll and e-People processing; monitors and manages use of accrued bank time by employees. Working with leadership, ensures regular training and tracking of training is obtained as required. Ensures regular monitoring and use of fiscal responsibilities of the departments. Ensure safety processes and procedures are in place and adhered to as well as where appropriate, safety equipment is utilized. Supports the Quality Management System and Process Excellent objectives implemented by Laboratory Services by contributing to accreditation related activities. Oversees Accreditation activities to meet legislative and Laboratory service standard requirements. Identifies opportunities for improving effectiveness, performance and productivity by gathering, preparing and reviewing reports and non-conforming event data. Supports competency assessments, identifies competency gaps and recommends solutions to bridge gaps. Oversee implementation of technology (methodology, equipment, tests) and processes in areas of responsibility that ensures efficiency, patient care, safety and cost control. Perform advanced problem solving with referral to appropriate level of clinical and technical expertise, identifies trends and patterns, and implements standards practices.

Required Qualifications:Relevant undergraduate degree in a related field (healthcare profession, business, etc.) and/or Registered Medical Technologist designation with registration with the CSMLS. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered. A minimum of 3-5 years healthcare leadership experience in a health care organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. A demonstrated clear pattern of progressive professional and personal development. Experience and knowledge of working in a clinical laboratory setting. Experience and knowledge of Acute Care and Community/Rural laboratory settings. Understanding of Payroll, e-People processing and Recruitment Management System.Additional Required Qualifications:In addition, the incumbent will possess a record of accomplishment in the following areas: Proven leadership skills in team building, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills. Ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast paced and changing environment. Solution oriented with a focus on exercising sound judgement to creatively resolve issues. Ability to work independently.Preferred Qualifications:Previous Medical Laboratory Technologist II experience in a Rural Clinical Laboratory Setting. Meditech LIS and/or Epic Beaker Experience. Understanding of quality management systems. Demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making, coaching, teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Demonstrated knowledge of change management and creating innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues.Quick Apply
