Job Description

Future St. Stephen serves as the economic development agency for the Municipal District of St. Stephen. Future St. Stephen’s Board of Directors is seeking a new President to work with the Board to accomplish the goals of the agency.Main responsibilities of the role:

  • Plan, initiate and direct economic development initiatives for the Municipal District of St. Stephen, working with Future St. Stephen’s Board of Directors, the Chief Administrative Officer, the Council and the Regional Service Commission to advance the development goals within the Town’s municipal plan.
  • Meet with civic organizations, developers, educational institutions, business and property owners to identify economic needs within the municipality.
  • Conduct research on economic development strategies and trends, with a view to identifying innovative solutions to meet local economic needs.
  • Collaborate with regional development professionals, Municipal District staff and government agencies to initiate and/or support new projects and keep them progressing to completion. Identify, pursue and secure funding for these projects.
  • Work with the local Chamber of Commerce and regional government agencies to provide support to existing businesses.
  • Market the Municipal District of St. Stephen through various contacts and media, pursuing and responding to potential new businesses and site selection consultants, showcasing the town’s industrial sites and opportunities.
  • Provide economic development advice, assisting in the development application, permitting and zoning processes, and with the preparation and management of development agreements and real estate projects.
Key attributes:
  • Degree in Economics, Business, Marketing or a related field.
  • Communication skills demonstrated through the ability to collaborate, network, lead projects, research, negotiate, analyze, and resolve issues.
  • Experience working in an economic development role, and/or experience in marketing, sales and business promotion.
  • Experience writing effective proposals for funding opportunities.
  • Political acuity and diplomacy.
  • Creativity, flexibility, and innovative thinking.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to transportation.
  • Proficiency with digital communication media such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams etc.
Your entrepreneurial approach and ability to pursue the town’s economic development goals (see website) should be evident from your prior work experience.
