Job Description - Environmental Attendant - 350POSITION SUMMARY:Working as a member of the interdisciplinary team to provide housekeeping and laundry support serviceswithin established facility standards and in accordance with the facility’s philosophy, mission, standards,objectives and policies. This position reports to the Executive Director.1.Key Activities

  • Cleans patient rooms and designated areas:
  • dry mops, wet mops, vacuums, and spot cleans floor surfaces,
  • washes, disinfects, dusts and polishes surfaces, fixtures, furniture and equipment,
  • washes and disinfects shower and tub rooms, washrooms and toilets.
  • Disinfects and thoroughly cleans rooms of discharged patients; makes beds where required.
  • 3 Disinfects and thoroughly cleans isolation and specialty rooms using isolation procedures.
  • 4 Performs waste management activities, which may include:
  • emptying waste receptacles, including sharps containers,
  • collecting soiled linens.
  • Orders general inventory items through central stores; distributes, replenishes and restocks supplies and linens.
  • Shows others how to perform tasks or duties as part of the departmental orientation.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area.
  • Organizational Responsibilities
  • Is aware of, understands, and complies with, the New Brunswick Nursing Home Act, the regulations, and any order made in accordance with the regulations.
  • Participates in and contributes to accreditation and inspection processes.
  • Participates in and contributes to policy and procedure development and valuation.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and conducts work according to, the nursing home’s philosophy, mission, values, and policies.
  • Works in conjunction with other team members to develop quality indicators and assists in monitoring indicators when developed.
  • Attends ongoing educational sessions and meetings.
  • Assists in orientation of new personnel and new residents/families/trustees.
  • Maintains regular attendance as scheduled.
  • Utilizes resources, such as supplies and equipment, economically and safely, minimizing losses and damages.
  • Promotes the facility and maintains good public relations
  • Assists in loss control and waste management and keeps administration informed of any areas of loss through the incident reporting system complies with WHMIS legislation.
  • Health & Safety Responsibilities
  • Is aware of, understands and complies with the New Brunswick Health and SafetyAct, the regulations and any order made in accordance with this act or regulations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of facility’s current emergency plans
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the safe use and care of supplies and equipment.
  • Practices good body mechanics.
  • Reports unsafe practices and conditions to the employer.
  • Ensure own health and safety and that of other persons at or near place of employment.
  • Reports to the employer the existence of any hazard at the place of employment, of which he/she is aware.
  • Wear or use such protective equipment as required by regulations and the home=s own policies.
  • Consult and co-operate with the Health and Safety committee or representative.
  • Co-operate with any person responsible for the enforcement of the Act and the regulations.
Additional ResponsibilitiesRelated and allied duties may be assigned as necessary to the operation of the home.QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience in the assigned area desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability in effective organizational skills.
  • Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Physically able to perform assigned tasks.
  • Good previous work record and attendance record.
Job Type: CasualSalary: From $18.72 per hourSchedule:
