With over 1500 stores in all 10 provinces, you may know us as Sobeys, Safeway, IGA, Foodland, FreshCo, Thrifty Foods, Lawton’s Drug Stores or another of our great banners but we are all one extended family.All career opportunities will be open a minimum of 5 business days from the date of posting.OverviewThe Indigenous & Community Relations Specialist will play a key role in developing strategies that support our DE & I and Community Investment initiatives while championing, and implementing organizational change on the path toward a safe and inclusive community.Job DescriptionIn this rewarding role you will:

  • Lead internal working group to define aspiration and champion holistic approach for Indigenous path forward towards reconciliation.
  • Continue to engage and collaborate with Indigenous teammates, sharing circles and sustainment plan.
  • Recommend education, awareness and support for all teammates to build knowledge and cultural confidence and commitment to DE&I.
  • Recommend and implement leadership education to build deep understanding and awareness on Indigenous history, culture and barriers. This would include the development of protocols and briefing to develop framework for meaningful partnerships.
  • Recommend and implement training and support for leaders to build inter-cultural competency.
  • Complete Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) assessment with support from CCAB
  • Identify Community Investment partnership for Indigenous communities and partner with Community Investment team.
  • Collaborate across Talent Acquisition teams and HR to develop recruitment and retention solutions and programs for Indigenous talent. This could include; career development and advancement programs, identification of barriers, engagement opportunities and recruitment plans to increase representation through partnerships and programs.
  • Develop an engagement and support strategy to strengthen our community relationships.
Job RequirementsYour resume and experience will show:
  • An Undergraduate Degree in Indigenous Studies or related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years experience embedded within the indigenous community in a strategic corporate partnership capacity
  • Experience developing and delivering processes, tools and programs
  • Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders and Indigenous groups.
  • Experience developing and delivering effective presentations to broad audiences.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Indigenous people, their cultures, communities, political structures, processes, opportunities and challenges at a local, regional, provincial and national level.
