Job Description

The Store Supervisor directs all operations of the thrift store and ensures the efficient and effective reclamation, processing and distribution of goods.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs all operations of the thrift store
  • Creates a safe and amicable working environment for staff and volunteers
  • Supervises store employees and volunteers and takes responsibility for the hiring of summer students
  • Responsible for human resources management of store employees using the UltiPro system
  • Takes responsibility for staff safety by ensuring overall compliance with all safety procedures and by monitoring health and safety policies and procedures and ensures staff are aware of policies and procedures of The Salvation Army
  • Takes responsibility for the accurate completion of all customer sales transactions including visa and debit; has role of Head Cashier for store
  • Plans store layout to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays
  • Oversees customer relations ensuring a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for customers; handles customer complaints
  • Unpacks and sorts merchandise; prices merchandise and arranges on racks
  • Ensures seasonal changeover of stock
  • Ensure store is always well stocked
  • Ensures attractiveness of store through “Tidy Maintenance” by maintaining a clean and organized store
  • Ensuring store opens on time; closes store and prepares daily deposit
  • Ensures banking procedures are properly followed
  • Responsible for store security and safety
  • Monitors loss prevention program protecting the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring
  • Manages in-store budget within guidelines inclusive of monitoring store expenses and weekly sales
  • Oversees store maintenance including cleaning, repairs in/outside and ground maintenance arranging for store maintenance and repairs when needed
  • Responsible for ensuring that garbage is removed from the thrift store site.
TERM: Regular, full-time; 35 hours per weekQUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Have the ability to work within a Christian faith-based setting and uphold the mission, vision and values of The Salvation Army
  • Have completed High School
  • Have previous experience in the retail sector including supervisory experience.
  • Possess computer skills with knowledge of e-mail and Microsoft Office products; be willing to learn Salvation Army software applications
  • Be able to lift to a maximum of 50 lbs.
  • Have physical effort/dexterity for continuously standing for long periods of time, frequent twisting, bending, crouching, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling, lifting and kneeling
  • Be able to maintain a high standard of confidentiality
  • Obtain a Criminal Police/Vulnerable Section Check and clearance through The Salvation Army Internal Abuse Registry and be willing to sign the Salvation Army Code of Conduct Receipt and Acknowledgement Form
