Job Description

Coast Mountain Hydro Services Inc. (CMH) is seeking a full-time Project Manager to add to our small team of dedicated professionals to manage the operation and maintenance of our hydroelectric facilities. CMH is an award-winning [Recipient of a 2019 Clean Energy BC (CEBC) award for Operational Excellence] run-of-the-river hydroelectric project – comprising the Forrest Kerr, McLymont and Volcano Hydroelectric Facilities. We are located in Northwestern BC, with the Coast Mountain Range to the west and Skeena Mountains to the east, approximately 100 km from the town of Stewart and within the Golden Triangle in Tahltan Territory.CMH is owned by Axium, Manulife and the Tahltan Nation. With two active mines in proximity, and an estimated $365.9M of exploration expenditures incurred in the Northwest throughout 2021, CMH - which generates 300 megawatts, enough to power 225,000 homes – is providing a source of clean power to local Tahltan communities and to the exploration and mining industry. Functional Responsibility Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Project Manager provides technical leadership and direction to support CMH facilities. Principal Responsibilities

  • Plans and manages site improvement and maintenance projects, from initial scoping through to execution; with a larger focus on civil and mechanical projects, including scope, budget and schedule.
  • Plans and manages site maintenance shutdowns, from initial scoping through to execution;
  • Manages engineering consultants and contractor deliverables on site projects;
  • Ensures engineering and supply deliveries are made on-time and according to established quality criteria for all systems related to the site;
  • Maintains plant drawings, manuals and documents related to modifications;
  • Develops quality assurance documentation for plant improvement projects and contractor maintenance programs;
  • Contributes to the availability, reliability and efficiency of all plant equipment while collaborating with operations and maintenance on problems concerning equipment and facilities;
  • Contributes to the culture of safety, ensuring projects are planned and completed with safety as a top priority;
  • Interfaces with safety and environmental leaders to ensure plant compliance in both areas;
  • Participates in the selection, negotiations and technical discussions of the main suppliers and sub-contractors for maintenance related services;
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of operating procedures;
  • Reviews updates and changes to preventative maintenance program and provides technical support when appropriate;
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining maintenance standards by working with the Maintenance leadership at site, preparing maintenance programs for long-range economies;
  • Performs analysis and/or collection of large data sets consisting of: plant operations data, plant production models, and operations financials;
  • Assists in monitoring of operations financials through established data collection and reporting methods;
  • Works with plant operators to become familiar with operation of the plant;
  • Maintains awareness of safe working conditions and practices in all activities;
  • Supports site purchasing and logistics;
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • University Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering with a minimum of 2 years experience in a hydroelectric facility and 5 years of project management experience.
OR
  • Completion of a Red Seal Trade from an institute of recognized standing, at least 8 years trade experience with a minimum of 2 years in a hydroelectric facility, and 5 years of project management experience.
OR
  • Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist (C.E.T.) with at least 8 years experience and 2 years experience in a hydroelectric facility and 5 years of project management experience.
AND
  • PMP or other Certified Project Management designation
  • Experience with major plant equipment, rotating equipment, hydroelectricity, plant systems and processes; generators, turbines, high voltage equipment, test equipment and test procedures considered an asset.
  • Ability to successfully analyze, negotiate and manage commercial contracts.
  • Proven leadership and experience in technical coordination of engineering activities and subcontracting.
  • Ability to successfully supervise contractors and engineering consultants.
  • Data analysis skills. Experience in processing and working with large data sets. Utilization of MS Excel and pivot tables is key.
  • Experience with quality management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to withstand stressful situations during heavy work periods and emergency conditions.
  • Knowledge and experience with pro-active, predictive and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Adequate understanding of the budgeting process and financial planning activities.
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment, under adverse weather conditions.
  • Physically able to navigate tight work spaces in the plants while also navigating stairs, ladders etc.
  • Ability to work call-outs when required.

About this opportunity:
  • A permanent camp has been constructed for the operations team. The facilities include private rooms with bathrooms, a weight room, entertainment area and other amenities.
  • The schedule will be 14 days on followed by 14 days off. Note that travel days occur on days outside of the 14 day shift. During time on, employees will be “on-call” in the case of emergencies.
  • On-the-job training will be provided.
Additional Information:Travel costs from employees primary residence (in British Columbia or Alberta) airport to Terrace B.C. are covered by the company. Travel from Terrace to the worksite is done by driving with other co-workers in company vehicles.
