Job Description

This posting is for 1 Temporary, Part-time position until December 31, 2022, with the possibility of extension.The Early Years Navigator provides a blended service continuum of supports, resources, programs and community engagement activities for young children, their parents, caregivers, community and service providers.These services include, but are not limited to: information, supported referral and navigation through complex systems and processes, early learning and care, family support, skill development, screening, and assessment.Responsibilities

  • Provide professional development opportunities for early childhood educators on a wide range of topics to increase skills and knowledge that support optimal developmental outcomes for young children and families
  • Work with early childhood educators, parents and caregivers to understand and support challenging behaviors in children
  • Coordinate and facilitate programming for groups of young children with a focus on promoting positive mental health and strengthening social emotional skills
  • Design and facilitate environments for learning and exploration by children, parents, caregivers and early childhood educators in a variety of settings
  • Increase awareness of and access to community supports and resources available to parents, caregivers and early childhood educators
  • Support strategies that contribute to the promotion of quality, affordable, accessible and inclusive childcare
  • Liaise with the child care sector to monitor trends through data collection, analysis and information sharing
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships with parents, caregivers, colleagues, community stakeholders and service providers
  • Experience planning, delivering and evaluating programs involving stakeholders in all stages of program development
  • Application of solution focused, action-oriented, strength-based practice
  • Well-versed in brain science, normative child development, adverse childhood experiences, ecological perspectives and the importance of play in growth and development
  • Broad knowledge of community resources and experience assisting with supported referral and navigation
  • Knowledge of FLIGHT: Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework and Well-being and Resiliency Framework
  • Uses diverse facilitation methods to engage learners and encourage participation
  • Capable of performing independently as well as part of a team environment
Qualifications
  • A university degree in social science or early childhood with preference given to education associated with professional organizations; equivalencies may be considered
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience working with young children, parents, caregivers and community
  • Current Standard or Child Care First Aid certification
  • Previous experience with ASQ-3/ASQ:SE-2, Kids Have Stress Too, Emotion Coaching, Triple P and Kimochis is considered an asset
  • Experience delivering programs in a variety of settings and methods
  • Solid understanding of early childhood development and infant and early mental health
  • Strong computer skills using all applications of Microsoft Office Suite and database systems
Conditions of Employment
  • Submission of satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention Record Check
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • Required to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Available to work days, evenings and weekends
