Role OverviewReporting to the Process Analyst/Lead, the Purchaser will play a vital role in procurement for our construction projects. They are responsible for sourcing and acquiring materials, equipment, and services required for construction. Effective communication, negotiation skills, and a solid understanding of construction materials are key aspects of this role.Duties/Responsibilities
  • Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers based on quality, cost, reliability, and delivery speed.
  • Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers to achieve the best value for the organization.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to forecast material and equipment needs for specific projects.
  • Monitor inventory levels and manage inventory control systems to minimize excess or shortages. This will be done through the two current tracking systems in place.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and safety requirements in the procurement process.
  • Analyze market trends and maintain awareness of industry developments to inform purchasing decisions.
  • Manage and maintain relationships with suppliers, resolving issues and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Assess and mitigate risks related to the supply chain, such as potential disruptions, price fluctuations, and quality issues.
  • Conduct cost analysis and value engineering to identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality or safety.
  • Oversee the preparation of purchase orders, contracts, and other procurement documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Assist in developing and implementing procurement strategies to fulfill project requirements and timelines.
  • Support the identification, evaluation, and selection of suppliers based on quality, cost, reliability, and delivery speed.

  • Assist in the development of project budgets and contribute to cost estimates for materials and services.
  • Stay informed about environmental sustainability practices and regulations related to construction materials and equipment, and support efforts to source sustainable products when applicable.
  • Contribute to the preparation of purchase orders, contracts, and other procurement documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Assist in coordinating and communicating with various internal departments to ensure procurement needs are met in a timely and efficient manner.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of procurement processes, sourcing strategies, and supply chain management principles
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records and track orders.
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to handle disputes or issues with suppliers or subcontractors during the procurement process.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to use various digital tools and technologies.
Educational Requirements
  • 5+ years of purchasing experience.
  • Construction industry experience is considered an asset.
  • A bachelor’s degree or college diploma in business administration, commerce, or economics is considered an asset.
  • SCMP designation is considered an asset.
