Job Description

Responsibilities and Expectations: Repair and rewind various kinds of electro-mechanical equipment.Know how to properly implement the procedures of the Quality System that apply to the mechanical department. Other responsibilities include:

  • Read job cards to determine job status, work authorizations/limitations, estimate, description of problems, and/or expected serviceability.
  • Test electro-mechanical equipment to troubleshoot known or suspected problems using various methods (AC or DC) and record data.
  • Disassemble electro-mechanical equipment noting parts identification, configuration and condition.
  • Check work order to determine job status, work authorizations/limitations, estimates, description of problems, and/or serviceability.
  • Complete repair quotes for repair times.
  • Inspect various kinds of electrical apparatus for damage and evidence of electrical malfunctions.
  • Test condition of windings according to E.A.S.A. standards.
  • Illustrate and/or document all relevant data specific to unit’s electro-magnetic characteristics operating conditions, existing damage, or intended serviceability.
  • Dismantle and/or strip damaged or unserviceable electrical apparatus.
  • Prepare all reusable parts for rewinding or repair, and inspect renewed parts for hidden, structural damage or unusual conditions.
  • Rewind various kinds of electrical apparatus, observing proper insulating techniques and/or requirements during rewinding.
  • Test rewound electrical apparatus according to E.A.S.A standards and document test results.
  • Operate specialized repair and testing equipment, including but not limited to: winding machines, test panels, surge testers, core-loss testes, cut off sawsburnout ovens, bake ovens, grinders, cranes, forklift trucks, brazing units, dip tanks, VPI systems, and various handheld power and non-power tools.
Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Journeyman Electric Motor Service Technician or apprentice with at least 2 years experience and enrolled in an apprenticeship program or 4 years equivalent experience.
  • High school diploma.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work with hand or power tools, such as multi-meters, drill presses and soldering equipment.
  • Understanding electrical theory, electron theory, and knowing and following the Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Good communication skills both oral and written in the English language.
  • Ability to understand, perform and retain various skill-related training and operational and safety procedures demonstrated by supervisor.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and frequent demanding deadlines.
  • Strong work ethic and organizational, planning skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
