We’re recruiting for summer students to help our province achieve big things!We are seeking a Summer Student Nursery Worker who will be involved in many phases of tree seedling production at the nursery facility.Primary AccountabilitiesYou will also assist with the maintenance of our greenhouses including weeding, thinning crops and other related duties. Other duties will include loading trucks and wagons, sorting seedlings, cleaning greenhouses and other labour related duties.This position requires the ability to work as part of a team and performs strenuous manual tasks in an outdoor environment. As such, you must be able to do repetitive work for long periods at a time. Bending and lifting will be necessary for many tasks.Qualifications and ExperienceYou are currently a full-time university, community college student and returning to study in the fall or next applicable semester. Proof of returning to studies may be required.

  • A valid NS Class 5 Drivers License (or equivalent)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently as well as positively interact with co-workers as a team player
  • Good organizational skills, judgment, attention to detail and ability to multi task
Assets:
  • Previous forest nursery or greenhouse experience
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations;
  • Valid First Aid Certificate and WHMIS training
  • Knowledge of mechanical and machinery maintenance
  • A Class 3 drivers licence with air brakes.
We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.Working ConditionsWork as part of a team and performs strenuous manual tasks in an outdoor environment.
