Job Description

About Us: We Grow Beer! Origin Malting and Brewing is proud to be one of the few ‘grain to glass’ brewers in North America. We’re a fifth generation Alberta farm family whose barley is actively sought by the world’s largest brewers which inspired us to create our own beer. We malt and brew in our own Strathmore facility using only home-grown ingredients, creating the most authentic craft brewery in Alberta.Position Summary: The Accounting Associate position encompasses a wide range of functions, providing support to the business and managing the accounting cycle. In addition to bookkeeping activities, the position compiles, analyzes, and integrates organizational and industry data to generate recommendations and improve accuracy of forecasts. This is a relationship role, working collaboratively with other departments and external stakeholders.Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage the accounting cycle (compile data, manage accounting software, accounts payable and receivable, invoice processing and creation, month and year end duties, payroll, ensure data integrity, etc.)
  • Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards
  • Compare budgeted costs to actual costs by developing, maintaining, and analyzing departmental spending and preparing monthly reports
  • Work with appropriate parties to collect category and competitive data in order to create and maintain analytical tools
  • Analyze and report on business activities and trends to provide insights and recommendations to support strategic decision making; including developing and maintaining sales and production forecasts, providing analytical support to improve all aspects of the business, monitoring market share and competitive pricing, and assessing organizational initiatives, activities and processes.
  • Ensure support processes are kept up to date and continually challenged for optimal effectiveness & efficiency
  • Ensure business activities comply with provincial and federal regulators
  • Work with provincial liquor authorities to obtain approval for regional price changes and other promotional pricing
  • Keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge
  • Develop strong stakeholder relationships both internal and external
  • Observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources
  • Perform other administrative tasks as needed
Requirements:
  • Positive and constructive attitude
  • Post-secondary education; post-secondary in an accounting or financial degree considered an asset
  • Professional accounting designation also considered an asset
  • Proven time management skills; able to deal with the pressures of deadlines, interruptions, and changing priorities
  • Strong analytical, planning and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to analyze high volumes of complex data and create insights
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to build relationships cross-functionally and with external customers and stakeholders
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Valid driver’s license and a driver’s abstract with a clean driving record
  • Consent to complete a criminal background
  • Beverage alcohol industry experience is an asset
Work Conditions:
  • Full-time, office based, permanent position based in Strathmore, Alberta.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required
